for yrs i have used a 5150 head and a ebmm guitar. a yr ago i had a problem with my head and it was fixed by peavey. about 3 months ago i have something going on that i just cant figure out. the gain the sound is still all there but it sounds like i have my guitar at seven instead of 10. take your rig and run the guitar volume at 6 or seven and that is what mine is sounding like at 10. its seems something is wrong or missing and really starting to fustrate me. anyone know if this could be a jack, pot problem or maybe pickup problem? thanks

Unfortunately, it's hard to say without hearing or looking at the amp as a lot of things could cause it. Start with the most obvious/easiest and work your way down. Try another guitar, cord, speaker cab, etc. to make sure that it is in fact the head and not something else. Then you can start looking at the amp starting with the preamp tubes (switch out the one nearest the input jack first, then work your way toward the power tubes). Let me know what happens.

i dont think it is the amp caue it has new tubes and was recently at peavey for a whole work over/check-up. thats why i asked if a bad guitar pot etc. could casue this. i have put 2 sets of tubes in the head since this started so its not that.

Maybe there's a loose ground wire in the guitar that shortens some part of the circuit or a solder point that failes.
