I have decided that I want to go with Suhr Aldrich pickups for my EBMM Petrucci. The question I have is will the Nickel version fit? I am just not sure if they will fit size wise without doing any routing. Any thoughts for those that have switched pickups? I can always go for the black uncovered but thought that the nickel covered pickups with the chrome knobs I already put on would look pretty good (the guitar is Lava Pearl). What exactly is the 50mm or 53 mm speaking to? Thanks in advance!

The 50 or 53 mm refers to string spacing, or string spread. Your JP should need a 53 mm (or f-spaced) bridge pickup, and a standard (just the regular neck, no spacing noted) neck pickup.

I think all EBMM guitars have a f-spaced bridge pickup and a standard spaced neck pickup.

Thanks for the info. Do you happen to know if the chrome pickup will fit in the guitar? I hate to go that route if it won't fit.

The short answer, no.
The neck pickup is mounted to a flat PCB.
The pickup's your looking at installing will be to tall.
It will most likely be to tall for the bridge position as well.
Also the squared screw tabs-on the sides will not fit as the JP's are routed for the pointy "triangular" shaped tabs. So alteration of the pickup mounting plate or the guitar itself would have to be done.
I ran into this same problem when I installed SD's in my JP7.
I found a non destructive work around but I don't recommend anyone trying it unless you have pickup soldering knowledge. I don't mean soldering the pickup leads to pots I mean soldering at the pickup coils.
Not to mention small metal working knowledge and the proper tools.

That answers my question. Thanks!

If you are in London, I know someone who could do that for you flawlessly....

If he was in Montana I know someone that can and has done it a few times already on JP's :D

I wouldn't mind using a tech but I definitely want to find someone who is comfortable with EBMM guitars. I don't want to take it to just anyone. ;)

Nice clips! The MkIV will do just about anything, eh??

Thanks! I actually just sold the Mark IV. I have decided to go in a hot rodded Marshall direction. I will make some new clips with the amp next week.

This person is very well versed in all instruments. Including EBMM's in fact he gives a discount to people that bring in EBMM guitars because he says they are plesant to work with and built so nice they make his job easier.
But that's all for not because I doubt you live in MT or southern california (he frequents there).

Would he accept me sending the guitar to him? I would love to go with the Suhr Aldrich pickups but would like a professional who is comfortable working with EBMM Petrucci guitars.
