Does anyone have the wiring schematics for the Mr. Horesepower guitar? Or more specifically, does anyone know how to hook up a voltmeter guage (which is what the tachometer on the Nigel Tufnel guitar was) so that it will move and fluctuate as you play the guitar. I am making ny own custom and liked the idea of having a racing gauge to match the hot rod theme. Any help would be appreciated.

You might try customer service- they might have a wiring diagram for it. But there were only 25 made, so maybe not.

Yep, the tach is a VU meter. You should be able to take the voltage at output and wire it up to one.

When I was chatting to Dudley at the Country Club in SLO he told me they took the guts of the tacho out and replaced them with a VU meter circuit that he had designed specifically for that guitar.

It doesnt help you but it was straight from the Horse(power)'s mouth.

Anyone want to sell me the trade secret....I would be willing to pay ;)

Thanks...I guess I will try to hook up a regular voltmeter (or ampmeter) to the output jack of my custom when i eventually get to that point in a couple of months (still havent picked which active pickups i want to use!) and see how it goes. I dont know what kind of voltage output is given by active pickups, but i figure it must be 9 volts or less since they are usually powered by 9 volt batteries, maybe i can get a low-measuring voltmeter and try it.

Not the answers I was hopin for, but a good start. Thanks again.

I don't know if you really would be willing to pay, according to BP, you may have to pay with your life . . . . .

They aren't active pickups on Mr Horsepower are they?

I believe they are...the pictures of the back of the guitar show several different plates and covers.
Not 100% sure though...wish I had the resources to see one in person!
