I was having some tuning stability issues with my axis. Bends over a whole step would cause the guitar to go out of tune, and I would need to use the vibrato arm to reset the tuning. I understand that this is a common issue with vintage style bridges.
I attempted to solve the issue by lubricating the nut and saddles, and even the strings before the point of intonation, but was still having issues.
Stumbled upon these Wilkinson locking saddles and installed them. It was a really easy swap. Overall the tuning is now rock solid, no issue with extreme bends, and no issues with using the vibrato bar like a madman.
The appearance of the saddles was meh at first, but after a few weeks I don’t even notice them. I have noted that over tightening the screws leads to string breakages, and not all string brands work well, even when you don’t over tighten. I’ve moved over from Elxir strings to Paradigms.
