Defret my MM Sub?
I have one of the early MM Sub basses and I would love a fretless bass. I know Subs are not worth a real lot but that could change over the years. Should I leave it standard or would it not be too much of a crime to pull the frets and put rosewood veneer in place?
I would have to put flats on wouldn't I..

Why not ! You probably wouldnt get much for it if you tried to sell , and just looking at it wont make it earn its keep . You can always put a different neck on it if you stuff it up .

I owned a fretless sub 5 once, great bass. Do you own any other fretless basses? If you don't, have you played any.

I'm a guitar tech and have done a couple of fretless conversions before. I have no other fretless basses (apart from an Ashbory and an old double bass)
The chances of mucking it up are fairly low as I'm sort of qualified.. Its just just the question of devaluing it (not that it is worth much at the moment)... It's a toughie..

Buy or borrow a fretless and see if you like it first. You could also buy an aftermarket fretless neck and keep the original neck fretted. I have owned many of both and never been tempted to pull frets on any fretted basses I have owned.

There's a FL SUB in the GC online "used bass" listings.
They want several hunnert yanqui greenbacks for it !
