i don't understand why he "de-fretted" it. why not buy it fretless if he got it new?

He may have really wanted a maple fretless neck, and MM fretless factory necks are Pau Ferro wood... only reason I can think of.

weird. ah well... to me, de-fretting a fretted bass is like de-clawing a cat.
