WTB Albet Lee/Horrible E-bay ending

Anyone in Canada have one of these they are thinking of selling?Let me know before you consign somewhere. Thanks John...

I know many of you have read and a few responded to my post here.My search for a nice AL was going nowhere.I decided to play ball on Ebay as a forum member suggested.I placed my max bid early on the last morning of the auction and went to work. With 15min. left in the auction my main competition outbid me and won.I was ok with that. The next morning I was sent a second chance offer to buy the same AL due to the high bidder retracting his bid.I saw the warnings but being a rookie I decided to follow up on the claim.Next came a lenghthy very legal looking document complete with Ebay logos with instructions to follow.I asked this guy if he was the same person holding the auction even though his email came in different. He assured me he was. After many mails and stories he got me to send the cash Western union (again ignoring the warnings) to London England as his buddy in New Jersey was going to handle the shipping.Needless to say we all know how this has ended. After writing this I still can't believe I fell for it.My judgement was clouded due to wanting that AL.What's even worse I finally sold my Telecaster just in time to be able to afford to bid. Some of you might want to sell me swamp land in Florida but I just wanted to warn anyone of the mistakes that can be made when you want something bad enough. :(

I've seen several blue ones with white pearloid pickguards at a couple of guitar centers here in southern california recently if you can't track one down

one is at the grossmont (in san diego) guitar center. And I think there was another one at the San Marcos guitar center last august.

Hey, no worries- couldn't resist the shamless plug :p

It has those sweet single coil strat tones, but doesn't twang at the bridge like a tele. (Easily fixed though, with a different bridge PU.)

My AL is has MM90's so nope no silent circuit. However, my Silhouette special has the silent circuit and I love it. Never had a problem with it.

Good luck in your search. Glenn |B)

Glen - Are you sure about the silent circuit for the MM90's? I know mine does have it and that's the way they're listed on the instrument site. Although I saw in another post that yours was NOS. I wonder at what point they added the silent circuit to the package?

Either way - Pickngrin- I'd recommend any AL with the circuit. Then if you still feel there is something missing you can remove the battery and leave it unpowered and out of the loop - (Unless someone more technically capable disagees  )

There is also a fairly recent thread where a guy from the Bass side posted about an AL in gremlin green that has been sitting a while in a local shop near him. You might be able to search that up if you like the sparkly ones. I thought about that one myself but I think my next shot would be a SMY2D

Edit - here's the thread

Michael, now your going to make me think about this all day and it'll have to be the first thing I do when I get home, thanx. LOL. Like I said I've only had the AL for a little while and I tend to play more without an amp then with.

Though I'm with you, I love my AL and would highly recommend one to anyone.

The silent circuit cuts most of the noise from my single coils of my AL, but not quite all.

It's WAY WAY noisier w/o a battery. But the tone w/o the battery is just a wee bit better too. To my ears, the silent circuit takes out a fraction of the highs.

Would love confimation of this from knowlegable sources.

There's a beautiful AL in sunburst at Trutone Music in Santa Monica CA USA that's been there a couple of years. (But it's not as beautiful as the one in honeyburst I decided to order instead :D )

Pickn, did you try 12th Fret? They have 1 AL listed on their website, but they say to call because not all of their inventory ends up on their website. Check them out.

Michael, you are correct sir!!! From the photos above there is a battery. Thanx. :)

Pickn, ah well I would recommend keeping an eye on Evilbay then. I like the hardtails myself. One will pop up, but you might have better luck if you looked in the US there are tons down here. I tell you I bought all of mine via pictures and haven't been disappointed at all. They were almost all NOS.

Good luck with the search.

Although it was common on a number of other EBMM models since the mid-90s, any AL built before 2001 will not have the Silent Circuit, because Mr. Lee didn't ask that it be incorporated into the model until then. I have a S/S/S model without the Silent Circuit, and an MM90 model with the Silent Circuit...
