However, if someone was happy with it after doing that, why is it on evilbay?

It's neither an all-inclusive list nor an official one. If you want yours added, put the info in the Serial # thread started by Rod.

Anyways, I thought the SR + P p'ups was a nice idea and was ready to bid on it at most ~$250. But wow, $600+?

Looks like the original neck.

Actually, the thing isn't half bad. I like the paint job. I just wouldn't have put that P pickup right THERE.

It'd be fun to restore it. Probably has the original preamp... plug the routes, refinish it black, get a contol plate and pick guard...

All the pre-EBs had laquer finished necks.

It really wouldn't take much to turn it back into a Stingray...but that control plate...wonder how they did that.

Yes thats freaky. Its got to be both and awesome and a disappointed feeling to see people do good thing to what you create or the unfortunate bad things.

Question you know the post on how to make your neck the way they do it in the factory? Can you do that to any neck?

I had a reminder this morning that what we're doing is not exactly rocket science, nor are we truly engaged in research that might someday banish disease and so on. I'm going to try hard to always remember that.

So people do stuff to their basses? I've always figured it's mine and if I want to install a gear shift and fuzzy dice, well, I will. I don't think anyone at the factory gets too bugged, especially by stuff like this - that bass was made long before the Ball family bought the place.

There will be purists (some walk amongst us!) who worry about such things, and good for them, I say - good for them. Me, I say, "Hey, it's a bass with an odd paint job and an extra pickup. Someone really wanted to make it special."

I'm in the midst of a project which involves a very nice Rickenbacker which is undergoing a quite serious psychedelic transformation, much in the same vein as what the Beatles did to their guitars in 66 or so - and what Eric Clapton did to that SG which eventually ended up with Todd Rundgren.

Someone, a Ric purist, will no doubt think I have taken leave of my senses.

Good for them, I say! Good for them!

It's my bass. It will be even MORE mine when it is done.

Regarding what they (EBMM) do to the necks at the factory, and whether it can be done to any neck - no. Laquered necks are tightly sealed and its not a good idea to apply gunstock oil over that.

Poly is forever.

Lmao. I never said that it was a bad thing to mess with your bass. Im just saying its got to be cool to see new idea done to the bass you guys made maybe it sparks ideas in you head for a new bass. For instance that guy is already ahead of you guys with the double pick up on the bass :D However i wouldnt no if its humbucking i would think not but i dont know much about eletronics.

Well...I don't actually work for Musicman. Wait, maybe I do! No, if I did, I'd get a paycheck! So I guess I'm like a volunteer fireman.
