This is my third post, but first as a proud owner of an EBMM Axis - I picked her up on Saturday, and wouldn't even have had the opportunity if it weren't for a fellow forum member, who provided some well timed assistance with my search. I have a stable full of other guitars (both brand names and unknowns), and my new Axis will be welcomed into the fold as each of the others have on their arrivals. With any luck, pics will be on their way shortly!

From reading the other posts, it appears the serial number will provide my new baby's date of birth. G13144, according to the neckplate. If anyone can assist in a bit of history, I will be very happy. She has a very tastefully quilted maple top, nothing outrageous, and a neck with both birdseye and flame.

A quick question to those in the know (and prior to me starting a search) - it would appear that my Axis is strung with 9's, which I find far too slinky. I think that moving to my typical 11's may be a bit too much, so I am more than willing to meet halfway with 10's. Am I looking at a lot of adjustment or headache if I increase the string gauge? Also, my Axis has 2 springs on the trem claw - have any others here added a third?

Thanks to all of you who have posted information that assisted in my decision to seek an EBMM of my own - whether you are aware of it or not, this site is immeasurably valuable for anyone looking for guidance. And special thanks to "lumberjack" for steering me in the right direction.

Welcome and Congrats on the purchase!
We're almost neighbours. I'm in Tecumseh.
I can't wait to see the pics!

Did you happen to purchase it from Pickers Alley? I've never been there but spoken to them on the phone. They seem like a good bunch.

Thanks very much. I bought the Axis in Mississauga, actually. I had lived in Toronto until 1985, and oddly enough, I had been to this store in 1980 to buy, of all things, a Chiquita travel guitar. Funny how history repeats, and I return to buy an Axis 26 years later.....how time flies!

Pics will be on way soon, hopefully.....I have to wrestle the camera from my daughter first!

From one grumpyoldman to another - welcome to the forum.
I'm sure that some will say that adjustments will be needed when going from one guage to another.
In all the years I have owned guitars I have never made a trussrod adjustment or nut adjustment when going from 9 to 10 to 11.
i've experimented with 9's and 10's on my spanking new ALbert Lee guitar and no
adjustments were necessary. If it ain't broke ... ... ... etc etc
However I'm not frightened to make any adjustments which I understand on an EB guitar is relatively simple to make.
Two guys on the forum spring to mind for advice
Jongitarz - who makes EB guitars and pops in the forum often, and,
Tommyindelaware - who also does a lot in "Guitar-set-up-land"

Hey Grump! Congrats on the Axis... They're the best!

I think that going up to .010s shouldn't be a problem, but you might find you have to go to three springs on the trem... Also, my experience is the exact opposite of Spud's: I have to adjust my necks EVERY time I change string guages... In fact, living in Ottawa, I have to adjust the truss rod slightly on all my EBMMs seasonally (gunstock oil & wax finished necks, you know). Of course, I'm very particular about my action (I can really feel it when the neck moves a little bit), but this is extremely easy to do on an Axis anyway, so no worries... I've found my necks to be very responsive to slight truss rod adjustments, so my advice would be never make more than a quarter turn adjustment without re-tuning to pitch and giving the guitar an hour or so to settle in...
