Kent Armstrong makes some pretty amazing pickups. I think calling it a travesty is a bit of a stretch....

IMO replacing any pickup in a Stingray that still operates properly is a travesty. Now if it were a different bass...

Hm... Kinda on-topic, so here goes:

How do you guys feel about switching out the stock p'ups and electronics for older ones? Vís-a-vís what many a Fender bassist do, obtaining things like "Pre-CBS" pots and such and fitting 'em into their basses.

This isn't a replacement per se but now after having fallen in love with the Bongo, I wouldn't mind seeing the pre-amps in the StingRays changed to the Bongo pre. As for swapping out..... if ya got a couple of SRs already why not Frankenstein one? And Aero also makes some great replacement p/u's . I've heard an Aero MM5 p/u going through an Aguilar OBP3 pre ....... amazing! Still sounds like a Sting Ray only as though it's been mastered already.

No - sorry. I think the SR is perfect the way it is. Why mess with perfection?
