Not a bad lesson, i can do everything he does in the video (although some things not as fast ) so i dont feel too insecure, although i really dont like double thumping, i like normal slap style.

Not really, I just have a natural talent for slapping. Self taught on bass, learned slap originally from listening to the chili's and trying to match taht sound.. just kinda went from there. Learned Aeroplane, and i got into dead notes, then i just tried to come up with whatever combinations of dead notes/hammer ons/right hand slaps/left hand slaps that i could. End result = similiar to the triplet stuff he was doing and quadruplet, cept i dont double thump, and i only use one popping finger most of the time. I just have a really quick right hand.

Don't remember where, but I came across this vid about a month ago. I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I assume low action and a lighter gauge string would allow a softer touch and make this easier. (Along with lots and lots of practice...)

I find i like medium Dr Lo riders, Stainless steel, best. They actually have a higher tension, and i like the way they feel when slapping. They are very stable feeling.

Figjam you bastard, you stole my life story.... sorta. I can't quite do all that stuff, but I am completely self taught and I did learn aeroplane and try dead notes and idolize flea and have a pretty quick right hand and love slapping and popin'. For real... reading this post was strange, it's like listening to myself talk.

And you are 17 too huh? were we separated at birth?

P.S. I like lowriders too.

In all honesty, i'm not a fan of Wooten's solo stuff. Just doesn't really have any flavor to it.

That's sort of an interesting comment comming from a younger bassist. (No disrespect of age implied)
. I play "some" slap...as I grew up cutting the Ric's with a very fast picking style. I am now concentrating on my finger playing style. I have gotton to the point of quickness with my fingers as with a pick, however, I still can control attack better with a pick. But as a young bassist, I also taught myself, from RECORDS...(those big 12" round things)...and the radio. Having the internet at your fingertips, with such class players as Wooten, SHOWING you his secrets....is Fu###ng amazing. I would of been jumping all over this in my younger/starting out days.

Again, no disrespect to your age, just think about the opertunity that you are offered here....free....

Well, all his solo stuff is really is smoke and mirrors. Just tricks. Some take a fair amount of work. Most of the stuff shown in that video can be played with a week or so of work. Granted, it's a great instructional video for those new to slapping.
