but it's got to make up it's own mind to drink.

I have two friends that are in the market for a guitar, and I have informed both of them about how great Music Man guitars are. I have extolled every EBMM virtue, till I am tired, to no avail. One wants to get a high dollar Washburn Idol, then other wants a BC Rich something or other (barf-ola). UNREAL!!!

What does it take to help friends see the light? I can't drive them down and place a Luke or Silo in their hands cause they don't live here. But if I could I would. I know if either of them would pick up an EBMM product, the guitar would sell itself.

Can't believe it.

This would be what I call...a lesson.

Let them get the others. If they don't take your advice...THEIR loss. When they complain...tell them how great your EBMM is....When they cry at their bad tone...tell them how great your EBMM is....When they bump their head...tell them how great your EBMM is....sooner or later, they might get the idea that they should at least TRY one out.

In the meantime...tell them how great your EBMM is....:D

I know that story oh too well...

i paid BIG BUCKS for LPs (they have all gone bye-bye)...i sometimes pay it for EVHs, but they are worth it....and the AL, shoot...strats feel like a $99 GC weekend special compared to that axe.

EBs are the best value out there...i guess it takes some people a long time to get past the G and the F words...:D

Thankfully I have never set hands on a Fndr and Gbsn, that I actually wanted. I am a young guy (21), and of course have seen MANY of OUR guitar heroes wield them all over the musical scene.
MY friend has a $3000 Gbsn and a custom $5000 Fndr, which I have played. They are pretty nice guitars, but my Silo kicks their ass to be honest. When I got my Luke a little while back, and showed it to my friend that owns these, he said himself that the fretwork is much better than on his $5000 piece of wood, and after feeling the neck he wanted to re-shape the neck on his baseball bat Gbsn. See the connection here? hehehe
I cant wait to get the 20th Silo and Axis SS!!!!!!!!

The ONLY geetars I have actually own/ed is a cheap Ibnz that I sold of course, and I sill have a neck through RGT that I have forgotten about that it's under the bed. I forgot to sell the thing, hahaha.

My son bought an SG, and he’s had a love/hate relationship with it since. I tried to raise him right, but I must have messed up somewhere. He asks me endless questions about my Sil Specials, and I have nothing to say but good things. He’s a hard working kid with a big mortgage, and can’t afford buying another guitar just yet. I keep advising him to sell his SG and get a MM, but so far I haven’t gotten through.

He’s coming out to visit some time soon, and he’ll get to play mine. Sometimes I think that’s the only way someone will see the light. Funny thing, we were talking on the phone this past weekend about amps and such. I put the phone down and played just a few quick things, so he could get a taste of the sound. His only comment was “I hate hearing you play!” Which is his way of saying “I wish I could get that sound from my SG”. lol

Sometimes, you have to learn from your mistakes ....

When you are a young player, you are an easy prey for the marketing guys, so you will buy a guitar with a nice look but with a poor sound ... (I bought my first guitar (an ESP Horizon Custom) in 1986 : pretty finish but the sound is sterile when I compare it with my Steve Morse).
With white hairs, you learn to trust your ears ...

yesterday a new student walked in with a Fender Custom Shop Classic Player strat, with laquered fretboard and satin neck ( weird eh). we had a guitar expo here in Melbourne earlier this year and this guitar was the showpiece of the Fender display, and was like $4800 AUS. next to the fender display was the Ernie Ball display, which had 2 Y2D's and a Luke. After playing the Fender ( which looked so nice ) i went over to play a Y2D for the first time ( i ordered mine just 2 weeks before ) and was shocked, the Y2D KILLED the poor strat. It was eye opening to me, even though i was a EB man by then, but i only had 2 balls then, and 5 strats, different now!!!!!!!

the cool thing was, i had 4 students with me that day and all of them wanted the strat BAD, i couldnt convince them it was just average. until they played the Luke and Y2D for themselves, then they crapped their pants in delight!

ewwww! :p

I do a little studio work locally, and was setting up my gear in the booth. I noticed the other guitar player breaking out his custom shop strat. Figured I had to check it out, and he proudly handed it to me. Well, imo, it did look very nice, kind of a 50's Cadillac blue with a tinted maple board. Then I crouched to play a few licks. There was so much lacquer or poly on the neck and board, my hand skidded up and down the neck, which was fat as a bat. The tone was nice, I'll give it that, but the playability was absolutely terrible. I handed it back and thanked him, but I was very happy to go back to my own rig.

Let not get too upset about others not buying EBMMs...I am still recovering from that 6 month wait for my AL ;)

How does that saying go....?

"All good things come to he who waits" or something like that.

I suppose it would be a nightmare to have an Al on order and no other axe to play. But if there's other axes in the house, it wouldn't be so bad. Heck, look at Foggy.... he seems to do fine somehow; how he does it I don't know. I think I'd take out a second on the house before I'd go ball-less for an indeterminate length of time........

BC Rich?!?! HOW are they still in business? I mean, who buys those? Geez. . . They looked stupid when they were "cool" in 1987. Now they are just reprehensible to look at, much less PLAY.

As much as I love EBMM stuff, I find it absolutely futile to discuss gear with pretty much ANY guitarists anymore. It's just not worth the time.

It hasn't been easy my friend! But I'd obviously rather wait than settle.
I think this forum has helped me get through.
If I was an active musician, this wait would never have been possible.
I am one of those guys who hasn't played for 10+ years.
Back then, I had multiple guitars. I believe that if I knew of Music Man then, I would have never stopped. I do blame bad equipment for my hiatus. That is why I'm holding out.
People learn from their own mistakes (hopefully). They rarely learn from others. It's knind of like your parent telling you not to do something, but you do it anyways.
At least we can get off on telling people I told you so when the finally come around. :)

Ain't that the truth. Applies to pickups, guitars, amps, fx, cables ... we're all zealots of whatever product we're in love with at the time.

Well...JP played BC Rich for a while too. So, you're in good company, and you're both right where you belong with all your EBMMs. :D
