You go to the Crossroads and get yer EB guitar tuned by the Devil. What will ya get?

This is the third thread of my 3 thread master plan. (I just made that up!)

Just like the Robert Johnson folklore you go down to the crossroads. You hand your guitar over to (who purports to be) the devil who tunes it and gives it back to you.
(he'd be in damn trouble if he didn't give it back, and no Ernie just one of yer guitars!!).
In return for this service (personally I would prefer a Petersons strobe tuner!) and of course for your soul, he allows you to play in the style of any guitarist or you can improve the guitar technique of your choice - who or what technique would you go for?

I'd go for Danny Gatton - who could play in any style!

JJ - will you do the "duties" while I'm away for a week? ;)

Tough choice on whom I would want to play like, but for me it would be Lenny Breau - awesome with both acoustic and electric playing.:)

hmmmmm, I'd have a tough choice deciding between Eric Johnson or John Petrucci.....so, I'd go for Andy Timmons :D..........makes sense if you think about it!

I would say a Frankenstein hybrid of...

Lukather's vibrato and tone
Petrucci's speed
Lynch's phrasing

basically Steve Vai.

I could have just saved time and wrote Steve Vai. sorry.

I love Luke's versatility...which made him one of the best session players on the scene (I've tried to be flexible style wise).

I'd love Paul Gilbert's chops...and I've always been a fan on Dean Deleo from STP. The man simply wrote some of the best riffs / melodies in the last 15 years.

So many talented guys out there and I'm a big fan of Petrucci but I'd go with Steve Morse for versatility (plus I've already got the guitar).

Saraceno, Beck, Gilbert, Timmons........ALL are fantastic choices! (and I would be more than happy to play as good as any of them.....or even as good as our local guitar teachers!).

SO hard! What about Gilmour? Or Jimi? Or Eddie???? WOW!

I think you have to decide what you want to play - do you want to be able to play everything or really just make the guitar express every possible thing it can?

For me, there is really very little indecision - it's Jeff Beck hands down, no one is even close or in his league. The guy makes the guitar sing - and beautifully too. AND I'm pretty sure with his chops you could pretty much play anything you wanted to anyways.

Check out his work on Roger Waters Amused to Death - fabulous.

EDIT: On a somewhat related note, my wife thought I was crazy the other day for playing "air fiddle" when Charlie Daniels Devil Went Down to Georgia came on the radio. She asked what I was doing - I told her I have a real guitar to play so need for pretending with that - but I ain't got no fiddle!
