I did that which to the string but in order to stop the buzz there heigh of the sting from the 12th fret is 3.5/16 of an inch high and all the rest are way lower lol

How about purchasing a lighter-gauged B string?

Humm thats a good idea I would like a small string too and it would put more tension on the string which i think is the other problem how do you go about purchasing single strings?

What strings and gauge do you currently have Urwords? a 130 should be able to be setup fine without buzz.

I've seen single strings online for an average of $8-9 plus shipping. I don't know of any retail stores that sell singles, but they may be out there.

That may be true, but buying a single lighter-gauged string one time to try out can't hurt...much.

I would expect this to be true. Lighter gauge would be indicative of less mass unless they are using some exotic metals. So less mass requires a lower tension to achieve the same fundamental. (in other words, I don't have exact experience but from the physics of the problem I think you are right).

Urwords, Maybe the setup needs revisiting from the start. I ran into a similar problem. I did a setup up and EADG strings were fine. B kept buzzing and it took an unrealistic saddle height to get rid of it. Dialed the neck back to flat and redid the setup and, Voila!, the B came in nicely. Not sure what I did differently. Maybe the scotch helped.

If scotch helps, BP and Jon should have put someof us to work Sat morning... we could have done setups on the whole factory in record time :D

What was most awesome about it was after I woke up the next morning and checked it, it was just as perfect as I thought it was the night before. :D

As long as the setups pass QC, I can't see BP complaining too much. Although he might have to change the factory floor setup to keep you guys away from the buffing maching. *Sigh*, I wish I could have made it this weekend. Glad to hear all had a good time!

Everybody who went gets 5 coolios:

QUOTE]The one bass that I had shipped straight from SLO last year (green one) is STILL set up great (and with 0, zip, zilch in the way of tweaking) - my other 2 (shipped from BC and BNW), while good, have had to be reset... and I play Kermit the most... go figure!

maybe i used to wrong word but ive noticed a lighter string doesnt need as much distance from the neck as a heavier one because it doesnt vibrate as much or move away from it orginal point as much

A lighter guage string of the same type will have less tension when tuned to the same pitch as one of a heavier guage. A shorter scale will also yeild less tension on the strings - all else =.

My E string is buzzing around the 5th fret on my new sr even when raised. The repair guy at the shop swears the frets are level and, supposedly, adjusted the neck. I'm livin' w/ it for now, but it still kinda bugs me

Other than that, the set up is wonderful and the bass just kicks boot-a! :)

If you turned it clockwise, (to the right) it would tighten the truss rod making the strings closer to the fretboard
