I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone at eb/mm for this forum. Since joining this forum a couple months ago I have become a bongo owner and fan when at first I was not a fan, I've had several questions answered about my eb/mm's, I've made friends, I've got advice on buying a fretless. I do not know of any other manufacturer of guitars with the level of service that I've witnessed on this forum, much less in other factors of their company. Thanks again to the "mods" and the staff of eb/mm for great guitars, service, and relationships.

Members and moderators dont like the repeat questions then make a place that is quick and easy to look up much of this vs the search function.

Something like this may releave some of the pressure off the staff as well as not offending new members or potential MM buyers with the search police ,snotty remarks , or just out right ignoring peoples threads or posts.

I think sometimes that if MM had to depend on this forum for making new customers.MM would go out of business.

Cheers

Try and clear this up a tad.

When I wrote: I think sometimes that if MM had to depend on this forum for making new customers.MM would go out of business.

I was looking at this forum as being a part of customer service in the sense that,if I called MM up and asked them a question and they said go do a internet search,or just hung up the phone. That would not make for a happy customer. So when a potential buyer or a repeat buyer comes here and asks a question ,one would think they deserve the same courtesy as if they dialed 1-800-MMEB.Thats just my thinking, my .02 worth. So when forum members or moderators, come on like they cant be bothered ,that is a reflection on MMEB in my opinion, and not a good one I think.

Many were quick to circle the wagons in defense of MMEB,and that is a nice thing. But a bad attitude towards newbies or even existing members I think does more to hurt them than to help.

As Mingus said"We do not have the RIGHT to post on this board, It is a privilege ."
The good ol boys club is fine and dandy, but is this not Sterlings house?

I think that MMEB customer service has been great,as I have talked with a few on the phone.I think MMEB does a nice job here, and works hard trying to keep people happy.

As far as a forum dealing with certain issues ? Wouldn't hurt.Would it be ignored by newbies and others ?I think some would. There is plenty of room on these v bulletins, and a quick guide/fix it thread may be worth a try. That way the staff and members could make even more of their time, if even a small percenatge hit the forum.

I have been on many forums as some of you have.Even been a moderator once or twice. So clicks and the search police are not new to me.

I am a consumer, and potential buyer. How people treat me and as I see others treated does have an impact on whether I may want to make a purchase from any one company. I am sure their are others, that are like minded.

Its the Karma that will be slung over my shoulder. :)

When Jon or Scott answer our questions on here, they are doing us a favor. I doubt that it is part of their Job to answer questions(petty or not) from random people that happen to show up on here. EBMM has customer service reps you can talk to on the phone for your questions. This place, If I understand correctly, is for EBMM enthusiasts to talk about Ernie Ball Music Man gear and related topics. If someone asks a question that has been put forth SEVERAL times and answered SEVERAL times, they risk not getting a response. EBMM customer service is as good as it gets and it seems(to me) foolish to complain otherwise.

I was looking at this forum as being a part of customer service in the sense that,if I called MM up and asked them a question and they said go do a internet search,or just hung up the phone. That would not make for a happy customer.

I'm not at all sure this forum was set up to be a branch of customer service. In the beginning, at least, I'm sure it was not. It has evolved into a different sort of place, to be sure, and I don't think that's a bad thing at all. Even we old-timers have learned quite a bit.

So let's accept that this forum is sometimes seen as an outreach of Customer Service, whether by design or accident. My main point is that I don't understand, truly, your complaint. I (and others), in response to a question that has been asked over and over, may well point the questioner to the search function. Yes, I personally could go find the answer and post it again, but isn't it better to have people know how to find the answer themselves?

My point of view is - yes.

The other thing you seem to be saying is that the suggestion that someone first do a search for an oft-asked question is rude, or that the person making the suggestion does so in a rude manner. I'm sorry, but I just don't see that going on. Not saying it never has, mind you, because I'm not here 24-7 (especially lately), but it is my opinion that the mods and admins here go out of their way to get people answers - or at least point them in the right direction.

I am not the Forum Nazi. I'm not easily offended by "bad" words nor do I have time or energy to police up every thread that deals with issues other than EBMM instruments. Correct me if I'm wrong in my impression that this is a pretty easy-going place.

...when a potential buyer or a repeat buyer comes here and asks a question ,one would think they deserve the same courtesy as if they dialed 1-800-MMEB.Thats just my thinking, my .02 worth. So when forum members or moderators, come on like they cant be bothered ,that is a reflection on MMEB in my opinion, and not a good one I think.

I agree with you. But I think that the customer DOES get that courtesy here. I am also that customer, of course. I expect and receive the same treatment you or any other member gets here. If a moderator or admin is dismissive to you or anyone else, I'll do my best to fix it. It's just that I am not seeing that. Are you? Can you point me to an example?

... bad attitude towards newbies or even existing members I think does more to hurt them than to help.

At the risk of repeating myself, pointing out the search function is not indicative of a bad attitude nor a dismissive gesture, especially with the questions that have been asked and answered many times. Am I wrong?

The good ol boys club is fine and dandy, but is this not Sterlings house?

I have to assume that I'm a member (if not Headmaster) of the good ol boys club, but I stay aware that this is not MY forum. There is enough oversight here for me to believe that if I am out of line, Sterling will let me know. He doesn't strike me as the shy type, and I do what I do here at his pleasure.

I am a consumer, and potential buyer. How people treat me and as I see others treated does have an impact on whether I may want to make a purchase from any one company. I am sure their are others, that are like minded.

If other forum members are short with someone, I very often try to remind everyone to play nice, to not run with scissors and so on. That's about as heavy-handed as I get. It is - yet again - my opinion that everyone here (with one or two notable exceptions, and they are no longer appearing in this film) has been happy and treated well. And again, if you have not been, then show me where and I will go out of my way to make sure, inasmuch as I can, that such things don't happen again.

Its the Karma that will be slung over my shoulder.

I appreciate that and hope I have done a bit to make sure that my karma, the board karma, if you will, is nothing but good.

Regards,
Jack

Thank You Andrew! It is not my job to be here. I don't get paid for it. I get paid for repairing guitars. Need your guitar fixed? Call me. Scotts job is customer service. If you need answers call him. It is not his job to be here either. I know since we are here a lot people would assume it is part of our jobs. Trust me...It ain't. You think I am getting paid right now? We do it because we love guitars!

Sometimes Jack pays me to do stuff, but that a whole other thread.

What might be a good is a forum that covers some of these issues.A forum of stickies. With info such as

What to clean your fret board with
What to clean the neck with
What to clean the body with
How to reconnect a stripped strap button
Set up info
tollerance
What to expect from a humbucker and a j pick up combo
Double h
Single h

Get the staff together and make a list and address these issues.
Make them easy to see,for the newbies, and existing members as well.

I think you expect too much. as has been said, no one is paid to be here.

If you want to create a FAQ (Something Jack has already started as the sticky in the forum)--knock yourself out. You're as much a forum member as anyone else here. My suggestion? Use the search function and then cut/paste the answers into a thread.

Hell--Even a thread with nothing but cut/paste searches for "difference between, "setup," "clean neck," "rosewood maple" would be a good start.

Somehow, you seem to think asking someone to use the search function provided is more rude than asking people to re-type information that has already been posted and hasn't changed....

As for being rude--Honestly, I found your derisive comments to Mingus as rude as anything you accuse anyone else of saying.

But Jon you know how rude you can be...you know offering us your expertise and time for free like that...   I mean... aren't you worried that people won't buy your instruments being that we are all such jerks here. I guess you can't make everyone happy...might as well piss a few of 'em off. :D
