Hello

Sometimes, you wake up with strange ideas in your head. One morning in February, I woke up with a stupid idea : running a marathon. And because, I am also stupid, I found it was a cool idea ! I am 41 years old, thus running 42.195 km looked adapted ... Or perhaps, the night before during rehearsal, we drank too much beer !
Thus I started a preparation (before I was a casual runner, a run every week. In March and April, I ran 3 or 4 times per week).
Thus today was the big day.
As you can see on this photo (taken after 40 km), I am smiling :D:D:D :

I finished the 42.195 km in 3h53 ... not so bad for an old man like me ;)

The inspiration for the title of this tread comes from a song of Rory Gallagher :

I had this song in my head during the first 21 km. After that it was an Iron Maiden song : the Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner.

Some lyrics of this song :
But the miles they never seem to end
As if you're in a dream
Not getting anywhere
It seems so futile

were ringing in my head ...

Next year, with the French forumites (DrKev, Threeminutesboy, Ily, French Kiss, Dav, ...), we will form an EBMM team :D. Ready boys ???

wow I'm amazed by the time you have achieved not sure I can run with you next year :)

I'd be glad to be part of the team but let say as a support for the beers ;)

But congrats on the performance , really! A friend of mine did the NYC Marathon in november and though being a regular runner did it in more than 4 hours

Wow, a Frenchman has referred to me as French. I'm honored! Francois, congratulations, my friend! I'm very proud of you and I'll be delighted to cycle along side you and give you all the support you've already proved that you don't need!

In other news, who can loan me a bike?

Thanks a lot for your support

Sport is like music : you need preparation. In March, I ran 300 km, in April 200 km ... But fortunately I still had time to play my guitars.

David, Kevin, you still have 364 days for training (the Marathon de Senart takes place every year the 1st of May).
It's magical : if you run enough, you can drink all the beer you want and still have a flat belly !

Wow- what an achievement! Serious respect here.

I run regularly but haven't ever committed to a marathon. Something to strive for in the future.

Well, if one day you want to do the marathon of Paris or the marathon of Sénart (the marathon I ran : it arrives in my hometown, in the suburbs of Paris), I will be glad to give you some logistic support.

fantastic....wonderful what you can do when you decide to do it!

How true.

Yes ! It was besides a perfect day for spending my time in my garden playing with my kids ... But sometimes you have to do something unusual otherwise life becomes boring ;)
