I am not a bass player but I am considering doing my own (simple) bass tracks in Logic 9.
Can you people give me some pointers as which amps model you use in there?
How does it sound plugged direct since I have no bass amp, just a borrowed bass guitar?

There are lots of reasonable amp models in Logic 9 and Garageband. There is no "correct" answer. Just try out a couple and see what you prefer. Your ears will guide you.

It sounds pretty good plugged direct. In fact I always record this way. I use the DI out of my Markbass amp into my Presonus A/D interface. However, I do not use any effects or amp models since I am going DI out from the Little Mark II amp.

Guitar is a different beast and sounds like poop using the pre-loaded Garageband or Logic amp models. Here we either mic a good tube guitar amp, or sometimes use Guitar Rig.

the nice thing about logic is that you can record the basstrack and add the effects/amps afterwards :)
so just play around and experiment...
