Good evening all,

I'm a bit of a lurker here, mainly my experience is with Hamer Guitars over the recent years.

I've had a number of Silhouettes over the years, including a very early one with a gloss finished, very heavily figured neck, currently I have one, which is a an old floyded one.

This is my go to guitar if I ever (very rarely) think about playing out, as it's the most comfortable guitar I own.

I'm thinking about another EBMM, and I love everything I've seen and heard about The Y2D, and I'm looking out for one with a Floyd in deep purple burst, with a particularly nice top and and neck figure.

During my searching, I've seen examples of this model with the Trem both, flush mounted to the body, and also with a route for up bends like my Silhouette.

I've had a brief scan of the forum and was unable to turn up too much about this feature, so I wanted to ask whether this was an option that could be factory ordered, or something that was added post sale?

On the subject of this model, were there a lot of options and up charges available? (Other than Trem/hard tail, pained breadstick face/unpainted, flame or quilt. the tops and neck figuring for example seem to vary hugely in appearance from one to another from hugely dramatic, to just very nice.

I know there are a few questions there, but I'm hoping you can help fill me in!

Cheers all, and thanks in advance,
Ben.

When the Y2Ds first added the optional Floyd it was installed flush on the body of the guitar; at some point 4-5 years ago (I think; it's been a while) it was changed to the recessed installation.

There used to be a lot of options available - they used to have at least 3 colors available at any given time (purple sunset, deep purple burst plus at least one other color that varied every few years). The choice of flame or quilt was also available most years (I think the first few years it might have been "luck of the draw"), and the painted headstock was always an option.

Since November 1 of last year the guitar is only available in the purple sunset burst, but you can get it with or without the Floyd, with or without the painted headstock, and with either a flame or quilt top. But there still could be some out there with the Floyd option in the other colors, and there is always the used market.

That's great, thank you very much. Firstly I've been calling my favoured finish the wrong thing for a bit!

Given that I've not had my hands on one of these yet, and I do love the silhouette neck profile (the ones I've owned have all been very similar - 24 fret necks) would it be fair to expect a similar feel To the silhouette, but perhaps a thinner neck overall on the SM?

Thanks again,
Ben.

It has been a while since I owned an Silo Special (2011, probably), and I last played a Morse a couple of years ago. I'm thinking that the Morse neck was a bit thicker than the Silhouette neck, but not as thick as an Albert Lee neck.

Trying to remember a Silhouette neck, I think Y2D is a little bit chunkier, not much. But the weight, with Floyd Rose system, is very different, heavier. I think of a Y2D as a Les Paul done right but not as heavy.

the Y2D is quite heavy compared to the silo, because of the body woods. my purple sunset is a heavy monster! other Y2Ds i have and have owned where a bit lighter in weight, but still not as light as any silo i have played in the past.
my EVH with an upgraded big sustainer block is as heavy as my non tremolo Y2Ds...just to give you an idea.

the tone coming form the Y2D is different as a silo, the silo much more like a strat, where the Y2D is a mid-crunch monster with a nice top-end...they scream and rock as hell! :)

BTW, I took out my Y2D Floyd Rose Morse last night to a Motown jam (been co-hosting this for two years now), but this time I deliberately moved the neck and bridge pickups really close to the strings to make it a monster rockNroll machine -- actually worked well with R&B songs if you moderated the volume output from this setup. The sound was very close to an Ibanez RG/JEM (I own an RG750.)

Hi all thanks for the replies. More great info. i am spoilt for guitars but I think I'd like to get one of these. I've seen a beautiful example in Japan, but it seems advertised at a high price compared with most I've seen an the market. I'm on no particular hurry so I'll keep my eyes open here as well in the for sale section.

Cheers,
Ben.
