Welcome to Day 16 of my annual New Year's New Guitar Days (NYNGD)!
OK, guys. We have come to the end of the 2021 edition of my New Years New Guitar Days (NYNGD). We should have finished on New Year's Eve (12/31/2021) but sometimes life doesn't cooperate. This takes quite a bit of time -- I spend about 45 minutes to an hour photographing each guitar (because I am not a pro photographer), and then for each guitar I spend another another five hours sorting through the photos to find the best color accuracy and angles, cutting the images, cleaning the images, etc. I love every minute of it, and it's an OCD freak's dream, but it takes time. And, even though I love doing this, it's not my highest priority... so, here we are on June 28th, 2022 and we're revealing last year's Grand Finale.
I have done this now for 10 years and I really enjoy recapping my GAS and sharing with my fellow Knuckleheads. As I've said in my manifesto, (and I quote myself):
I've enjoyed reading your feedback and thoughts and POV's. And I've enjoyed feeling like it's maybe a little bit of a smaller world by being able to "hang" and shoot the sh!t about the guitars we love with you guys from around the world:
Finally, thanks to Brian, Scotty, Derek, A.J., Tomas, Teri, Drew, BP and the rest of the good folks at EBMM who continue to dedicate themselves to creating the tools that we enjoy -- that help us make our music, help us aggravate our spouses, and bring us together as fellow Knuckleheads!
OK Jeff, enough of your babble. Let's get to the final NYNGD of 2021: NYNGD #2021-16!
Today's NYNGD may be controversial in the Grand Finale slot. As I've said before, the top five or six guitars are all interchangeable, as each one of them has different reasons that put them in the top and the different reasons appeal to each of us differently. But...
A one-off Axis BFR in the amazing Envy Green. This green is different from the old EBMM translucent greens that were in some cases brighter and in other cases not bright but still a bold emerald green; instead, this guy is more subdued green. For some reason I think of US currency. It's green, but not green. You know what I mean? It also has a Dargie-ish pearl green back and sides. Very similar to the Dubaldo Music Diablo Blue Axis (NYNGD #2021-3) that has a blue quilt top and a pearl blue back and sides. The neck is roasted maple with a bound ebony fretboard and gorgeous MOP block inlays. Notice that the pickup poles are gold, but all the rest of the hardware is chrome -- I like that, as I think a gold trem and tuners might make this one seem too gaudy.
I just love the one-off-ness of this guitar. So cool to look at and great to play. Sounds and feels awesome, as an Axis should. EBMM hit it out of the park with this one and I snagged it minutes after they posted it on The Vault!
Do you agree with me that this guitar deserves the Grand Finale slot!
So, there we have it. 2021's NYNGD run in the books. Onto another year of GAS! So far, almost at the halfway point in 2022, there are 9 new EBMMs in the fleet. Looks like 2022 is going to be another big NYNGD. And, guess what? I've started photographing them already rather than waiting until December... Maybe this year I'll be able to do NYNGD in the holidays like it should be! I hope you all have a great rest of 2022 and, above all, be safe and stay healthy!
Regards,
Jeff

(The back story in case you're new to my NYNGD: For the past couple of years I've done a fun thing that most of you I think enjoyed, and I thought I would do it again this year. Every year, I am a slacker about keeping my Guitar Gallery up to date... So, as a fun holiday thing, let's launch a guitar in the Guitar Gallery each day leading up to New Years Eve! In the past I've received PM's about my collection and whether I play all of these guitars.
The same question came up during my NYNGD posts a few years ago and my answer was pretty detailed and well thought-out, so please check it out here!)
(Also, in case anybody gets any funny ideas -- these guitars are not at my house. They are all in my very secure and alarmed studio facility. I usually only have two guitars floating around the house...)

Hopefully most of the folks here -- and I sincerely get this vibe -- enjoy living vicariously through me and think it's fun and cool to come along for the ride. Kind of like that buddy of yours who seems to get all the girls (which I was definitely not that guy) -- you can either be jealous of the guy or high five him and listen to his stories! I've always been one of those high-fivers.
