Hi,

I have a superb 1995 sunburst. After nearly 30 yrs frets have worn out. Has anybody info on original fret width/height ? I'm about to refret with stainless frets. Any comments?

I would suggest calling Music Man customer service and asking (do it today or tomorrow, they'll be on break for Christmas from Friday). Or, if you never had the frets leveled in the past, the highest frets on the bass side get virtually no use and should be more or less the same height as they were from the factory.

I checked with MM Customer Service this past summer around re-fretting and they were still not doing non-warranty work. Perhaps that has changed.

I have used them in previous years on a JP and Y2D. I also had them replace them with stainless steel frets and have no regrets. (Although they had more recently mentioned that they won’t change from nickel to stainless steel).

If you can get Music Man to do it, they do outstanding work at a reasonable rate.

Not sure if the EVH used the same frets as the Axis Sport from the same era, but if so here is what I learned in researching this for a recent full refret on my 1999 Axis Sport. That apparently was originally equipped with a "high profile / medium width" fret, .095 x .047.

I ultimately selected the Jescar 47095 in nickel silver which has the exact same measurements of .095 x .047 and in my installation after I opened the fret slots just a little bit they worked out perfectly. Not 100% sure that was necessary but it bought me just a bit more relief adjustment that I was lacking.

They are also available in a SS version, 47095-S

I am sure there are similarly dimensioned alternatives from Dunlop, Stew Mac, etc.
