I'll take one when it's done, no matter what changes are made! Look how great the original JP model is.. and now they're working their butts off to move the design forward. I'm sure it the end product will look, feel, and play amazing.

Well said Steve, I agree

How come I missed this thread ?

So Three (3) new models in one week congratulations ! :p

One question to EBMM people : How many protos before final production models ?

Who is taking the final decison ? In case of Signature model I suppose this is the artist but what about other models ?

I'm probably gonna get flamed for this, but what the hell. I'm not trying to be negative, and I think it's fantastic that BP shares proto pictures with us, and whatnot. This board is always the first to know.

With that said, I hate it. I don't like the new horn, the pickup mounting rings, the back end of the body looks weird, and I don't like flame finishes. The body looks like his old Ib***z to me. His original EBMMs looked so unique, with the scoop (which i'm sure will return) but the body shape was so much better than his Iby JPMs. Plus, didn't he say he always used to take away the mounting rings from his old guitars?

One thing I do like though, is that it looks like it has D-Sonic/AN. I too disliked the tone of the Sitrucci on Score compared to his regular models.

For you guys that love it, i'm pleased for you, but i'm glad I got a 1st Edition JP signature.

Just my opinion.

IMHO,

I'm a big HamerUSA fan. I love their guitars.
But, I love what EBMM does for us. They share themselves. None of the other mfg. would put their chalkboard ideas out there. Good for you guys.
And BP: "By the people, for the people" works for me.

I do kinda wonder why theres 100 comments on looks and no real questions on tones. I, for one, would like to know what the new components have done tone wise to the axe.

I love my rad red JP6 to death. The finish is stunning; like a great sportscar. I never got into the flame/quilt camp as the only way to make a guitar pretty. Not to say I don't like them.

Rock on EBMM

OK, OK. I want one of those too!!!

The maple Luke takes priority, but this comes second, then I might get round to the Y2D...

Now, do I get them all in different finishes, or have them all matching as I totally love Pacific Blue Burst? :D

My only criticism is the pickup mounting rings. Not a fan of those at all.

Love it! The binding looks total class and the tweaks to the shape make it look mean!

I would dig a deeper forearm cut though...

I'll bet JP is well chuffed!

To honest, I don't really like it. The shape looks a bit of ... confusing. I don't know ... I'm sure it's a matter of getting used to it.

But I prefer the old one. I mean ... If I could, I would buy 10 of the old one. It was PERFECT for my taste. If I could make a signature model the original one would be it. Wouldn't make a single change.
So I kinda became a little dissapointed when I saw the new one. But of course JP likes it and of course its HIS guitar.

Though all the time I was looking forward to buying the original one when I gathered together some cash...

I REALLY hope the original will still be available.

Can someone confirm whether or not the contour is there, and since the neck is mahogoney and the tone block as well, is it a neck through? Thanks.

Also, I posted this over at sevenstring.org and there is an overwhelming excitement over this guitar, but of course the catch is the boys require that seventh string. Any official word on production sevens? Thanks!

Baby steps kids. We havent even got to the 7 string one but I cant imagine not offering one. The pickup rings are awesome and he has no problem with them you have better adjustability and gone are the tape the bottom of the pickup to keep the high e away.

It is a bolt on and we pobably will only offer the bound neck rarely cause it is a bitch and expensive.

making a guitar for JP is the hardest thing to do. The geometry is crazy and the access he needs and the balance pooints especially when he rests his foot on the monitor

If you arent listening to the DVD in 5.1 surround you really cant get how any of the guitars truly sound

For the record, I was at the Guitar Center in Edina, Minnesota last night and was talking to an employee about the prototype coming out. The guy told me that EBMM isn't going to bring it out, that they stopped it. I told him he was thinking about the Sub, not the JP. He asked the manager and he also said the JP wasn't being done. He said that the Sub and JP aren't being made anymore and that Guitar Center wasn't buying either any longer.

May I suggest someone with clout give them a shout. Prospective buyers may look elsewhere.

I'd be surprised if the scoop doesn't make it, cuz IMO, it makes the guitar fit your body so much nicer. On the other hand, cosmetically, the flame top looks "funny" stopping at the cutout. This could be the reason why John is trying the regular type of contour out.

The treble side horn offers better access. Perhaps the bevel van be added back in to help retain the original look?

Soundwise this guitar should be a radical departure from the current models.

One question BP: Since mahogany is being used, what type of finish is being applied? I've never seen an unfinished or oiled mahogany neck. Have you though about that?

Looking forward to see the results.

It's funny how some folks get put-off if we don't all love everything we see here. I respect those who are honest in their opinions and don't just follow along.

I'm sure it'll be a great playing and sounding guitar. What seems odd to me are the changes themselves. I'd have imagined that JP would have needed the same upper fret access back when the current model was designed. Plus, the scoop was such and important feature to him then. It's a bit surprising he'd give up such a crucial functional feature for the sake of the maple cap. But that's just my opinion.

And anyone who thinks Poppa doesn't want to hear any and all opinions just doesn't understand business.

In any case, it's great to be part of a forum chaired by the head of a company that makes my favorite guitars. God bless the internet.

Dave

PS

I eagerly await my 3rd DG JP6 due in November.

Deleted by self, because I later looked at (and replied to) this thread again and my opinion was totally different (more positive, the thing grows on you I guess)--and I forgot I already posted this, hehe.

WOW..I have been gone for a bit and I come back to see the magic is in over drive at SLO!

My opinion on this. I love the look...we have been eagerly awaiting a maple topped JP for quite some time. The mahog neck...awesome. I like the neck binding...gives it a classy look. Overall, I think this is a wonderful looking axe and I would love to hear it and play it.

JP's playing as well as his design interests change. It happens and this is his axe. So, I don't know why he would change things a bit, but it is his decision and I am more than sure he will only accept it after everything has met his specs. Then we will get our chance at owning one.

Very very nice job.....can't wait to see the other basses/guitars coming out.....
