And we will all appreciate it. Ernie Ball is the only company who has the BALLS to show prototypes as soon as they are made. And I think it is amazing, to actually keep us in the loop where most companies just leave people in the dark until the guitar is ready to be released.
Ernie Ball is the best damn guitar company on the planet, period.

Despite me not liking the looks of it, I cannot wait to play one.
It has to be said, EBMM has never disappointed us yet. Add that to the fact that my current JP improved the way I play, and I imagine the 2nd Gen JP will be a dream to play.
I take it that the fixed bridge model was abandoned?

Now that both parties have cooled down a bit I'll put in my 2c...
- At first glance what 'shocked' me the most was the lower horn. I thought it looked weird skinnier.
- I'm really excited about the wood combination. Not having played a 20th Silo myself I got pretty curious as to what all the fuss is about. The downside here (and by this I'm 'guessing', and solely aesthetically speaking) is that I'll miss the birdseye.
- The neck binding was a surprise but I think it looks pretty good... Might look better integrated in the headstock somehow, IMO (though I'm not sure).
- I like the picking hand resting scoop of the original JP. I consider this to be the 'most original feature' of this guitar, and it seemed to me (from watching the making of videos) that the design team put most of it's efforts while developing this instrument into perfecting this cut. I was also surprised not seeing this cut in the 'JP Muscle-Axe Edition'. Anyway, the fact of the matter here is ERGONOMICS. Maybe it got the best out of simplicity.
- No love for the pickup rings, but I've had guitars before that had'em and it's not too big of a deal.
- After looking at the pics after a few days I have to admit the look is growing on me. It's like a progressive song you have to listen to a few times to really appreciate.
I guess we just get used to (and fall in love with) the looks of our idol's gear, more so than themselves. We associate every bit of equipment with the happy moments they brought us and therefore become more intolerant to change.
Change isn't necessarily a good thing... But until BP decides to hook me up with an endorsement deal (I can't imagine any other company for such a thing ) I'll trust none other than JP along with EB folks to design the best instrument money can possibly buy. I'm sure it'll exceed my expectations as soon as I play it, they have done it before.
Keep us in the loop, we're annoying but we love it.

Can't imagine why. I haven't said anything there I haven't said here. No "friggin'" problem. In fact, aside from my first post, I haven't said much else about it.
I love what EBMM does. I try to feel like part of this internet family by chiming in. Just like everyone else. In my opinion, I haven't dumped on the proto. I pointed one or two things out. BP let me know that I was probably a bit heavy handed and I acknowledged that. I'm playing by the rules fellas. But when other folks call it "whining", I take offense to it. As if you have to have the consenting opinion here to not be a whiner. That's not cool fellas.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love EBMM as much as the next guy. We're priveleged to see things first and hear things first. I know it's JP's guitar for God's sake. I can't wait to see it done and I can't wait to play it. But if I don't share the same opinion on every friggin' detail of it, that's OK.
Now let's see more of the proto.

I agree. But it'd probably cut throught the maple cap showing the mahog underneath. Not nec. a bad thing though.

I certainly think that the new guitar has some very cool aspects to it. I might be more fond of the older model in terms of looks but the new one is obviously a stunning guitar. With both of them having a floating bridge I probably won't ever own either but I'm sure that for trem guys they are both great.
I guess I don't see why the phrase "it's John's guitar" keeps getting thrown around to people who share an opinion that is less than complete and total praise. I haven't seen anyone question that or even remotely act like MM should have run the protos by them first. A few folks here have said that they don't really care for the new design. So what? Nobody has acted like a big jerk, in most cases they express how much they love MM and the fact that MM chooses to share this stuff with all of us. A few folks have only stated their opinion. If everyone is going to be so sensitive then maybe it would be a better idea not to share the info with everyone here. I remember when the Y2D was finalized with the purple pickups and someone mentioned how they like the cream ones better and got the response from BP about how Steve did a good job designing HIS guitar. That person certainly never questioned that. They were very positive about the Y2D but mentioned how they liked the cream pickups better and somehow it was so offensive. Everyone has different tastes, as long as someone isn't a complete asshole what difference does it make to say that maybe the new design does it totally do it for them.
I don't really come to these forums as often as most so I don't quite have the clout that most of you all have. Let me just say that I have the highest respect for everyone here and it's not very often that issues like this arise but when they do sometimes the "dissenters" (for lack of a better term) get treated very rudely and condescendingly. I'm not trying to cause trouble or be a prick. I'm trying to bridge the gap here a little with folks on both sides. My intentions are good, I hope that you all receive them that way.

If someone invited you to their house for a meal and you weren't a fan of the meal offered, how would you handle the situation? Most people would probably not say anything while still being polite. If you expressed dissatisfaction or other comments in front of the host and other guests, how do you think they would react? If you don't like the meal being offered you know not go next time if invited. This is Big Poppa's place and we are all invited. He's not forcing us to say we like it, but he is being one hell of a host.

What can I say, I tried. Oh well.
If I sat down to a meal and the premise was that they were letting me sample something that they were selling in an open and free market I would think that it would be appropriate to gracefully say whether or not you liked something or not. Notice that I say gracefully, being a prick would be totally unacceptable. I don't feel like anybody here was overly offensive.
