I do use that more classical approach of the thumb being in the middle of the neck the entire time, and i have to say that when i do fast runs on the upper frets (15+) all the way from the high E to the low E (and soon low B! :D ), the back of my hand does end up hitting the low horn, and i do think that this particular change in the prototype can really help me out with doing these things more cleanly and accuretly, and i also believe it will encourage the person playing it to use this "Proper" classical technique, like people say about how the scoop really helped them facilitate their right hand technique better, i believe this might do the same to the left hand.

The acess is bad with bolt-on joints? sure. A solution is to get the guitar set-in neck or even neck trought. Other solution is don't anchoring the thumb on back of the neck. I do it most on steel string acustics with cutaway. But a bit fat lower horn can be a problem with this technique or even the classical "thumb on the middle" style.

Its near impossible to do runs for anyone form the bottom E through A, D, G etc at the high frets because of the tradtional setup of having the upper horn set higher and in front of the lower.



Hmm... doesn't seem to bother me at all.

Wow! You can apply effective technique on the low E, A and D strings at say the 19th to 24th fret....great stuff! I wish I could use them on a standard strat shape guitar set up and I wish I had a reason to use those notes on those strings...

The only guitar unimpeded access is like I said the Washburn N4 with the stephens extended cut away or a Steinberger...or something of similar design.

I guess it has to do with the fact that I don't wrap my thumb around the neck.

But I consistently play above the 17th fret on the A and D string.

That would do it I guess.....I am of the orientation that the thumb wraps over the neck especially when sitting down. Its easier when standing as the cl;assical posiiton with the thumb centred on the neck aids access to the E, A and D etc....but hey, an extended upper horn cutaway can only help! Ibanez' all access neck joint and deep horns works very well....about the only thing on the guitars that do!

Well, at least, with his DT rig, he just rests his foot on some boxes with diamond plate on them. DT uses in-ear monitors now. But...I know what you mean. :D

Today I took out my Ib***z JPM100 P2 and compared it to my EBMMJPM and the pics of the new proto. Looks like It has some similar designs ques from the Ibanez JPM's. The cut out on top and on the bottom are deeper and the lower horn on the bottom is longer on the Ib***z . I rested them on my knee like a was shreding a solo with my foot on the monitor and feeling the crowd and taking them to the next plateau:D (Sorry got off track) and I can feel where the longer horn on the bottom of the Ibanez was more stable than the regular EBMMJMP. Obviously there is no scoop on the new proto and Ib***z. Both of my axes feel great though and I can't wait for the new model. It would look sweet with a transparent picasso finish like the 90th Ham but in your caramel colors. Good job guys
