As a guitarist in a cover band, my Silhouette Special can't be beat.

The HSS pickup configuration gives me a wide variety of tones. Whatever's on our setlist, from the Beatles to Foo Fighters, I can go from clean and bright to hard and heavy with a flick of the pickup selector switch.

It's light and comfortable to wear, which is extremely important during those four-set gigs.

No matter how sweaty my left hand gets, it won't stick on the back of the neck, thanks to the EBMM wonder-necks.

Did I mention I love this guitar?

My HSS silhouette special got me through years of playing in a metal band and a soft rock band at the same time, the neck is wonderful and the guitar sounds great. I did change the pups though, foggy has a pic of me playing in CBGBs and maybe he will post it, mine is pearl blue with a black pearloid pickguard, non matching headstock, yours is awesome looking though- I also have the trem which I use alot actually for EFX, good to see some silo special players out there, if I ever get another one I want it to look just like yours, what color is that?

My Silo Special is the perfect axe, so versatile, i've said it before and i'll keep saying it. Its the best live axe i've ever played. 3 or 4 set gigs are a breeze with it.

I can't answer to the comparison with Axis bucker, but I can say that to me it sounds pretty focused in the med-to-higher end mids. I'm not a fast enough player to see if I can get it to "muddle up", but at my playing level at least, every note is clearly defined. In a band setting, it cuts through incredibly well, with not the slightest degree of harshness or piercing tone. I don't use pedals, but if I did, the clarity and definition isn't likely to get lost in the sauce. I rarely use tons of distortion, but the bucker deals well with anything I can throw at it.

In the beginning of using the bucker, I thought it was a little too focused for my taste. Then I realized it was only my sloppy playing. I can honestly say, the guitar has made a better player of me.

the two guitars i take to any gig is the black Axis SS and the silo special, so i get to use both guitars bridge humbuckers every gig. I find the silo special bucker to be almost perfect, it has a really clear defined sound, and cuts through without piercing your ears. the axis ss bucker is probably a little more rounded, and and has a little less midrange. but its a very tough comparison indeed, they both sound very very good. i must say i dont use the buckers for any more than about 15% of any gig, would be different if i was in a metal band!

I am asking that because I am picturing my "pair of balls" before even having the first one, LOL
and I am thinking an Axis ss w/ p90 first and a silo special because I tried so many basswood guitars w/ buckers of different brands, and I just couldn't bring myself to liking the sound. you know sometimes people say a guitar "plays itself". well, a basswood guitar always sounds like saying "show me your chops and your rack mounts".
it's so easy to get a groove with an ash body for blues or mahog for metal. alder isn't so bad either. it has a "chim".
so I think I want an axis ss w/90s and rosewood board and a silo special with maple,
"grow a pair!"

It is my go to guitar. If I could only have one guitar (WHICH I REALLY HOPE NEVER HAPPENS Knock on wood) It would seriously be my Silo Special. There is just something simple and magical about this guitar.

My Luke can get me through most of my gigs... except the softer smooth-latin, solo or duet jazz gigs where I use a Nylon String or hollowbody ...

However, the Luke can get an unexpectedly good jazz tone with the highs rolled off using the Neck pickup alone... (especially through my Bose L1 with my GNX3000 setup)

The only thing missing is that 4-5 position inbetween quack sound... & since I 'never' use the bridge pickup by itself, I plan to replace the bridge with a EMG-H which is a single coil in a humbucker casing... Then I can have the snappy quack sound as opposed to the mellow quack in the 2-3 position...

Love that colour combination!!! If (OK, OK, when) I get a Silo, I'd seriously have to go for that combo or similar.

And what are these "other" pick up combinations you speak of? You mean THAT'S what the little switch on the giutars are for?

The Axis neck 'bucker can do a lovely jazz tone with the volume rolled off as well.
