FS Stingray 5

This is BRAND NEW. I got it this week & it's just not fitting the bill. It's never been gigged & never left the house. Only played twice. DEAD MINT. Sunburst with Maple neck. Comes with all case candy, ohsc, & plastic still on the pickguard. Also has matching headstock. $1500 shipped.

I've edited a bunch of posts here to remove discount prices on new instruments.

To the potential seller, I can only say that while you might get that in Latvia or Finland, you'd be extremely fortunate to get that much for a used SR5 in the US.

Used prices (which we CAN discuss here, as opposed to NEW prices, ahem) on Stingray 5s are generally 850-900 or so.

But of course you can certainly ask whatever you want for it. Just an observation from someone who has done a lot of buying and selling of these.

I appreciate the input. I know this is technically a "used" guitar but as I said, I've had it for all of a week & it has not one mark on it. I didn't fill out the warranty card or take the plastic off the pic guard. It's obviously mint. I would be open to offers as I said but $800-$900? Come on.

are you a dealer or work for a music, the problem with you saying that you haven't filled the warr. card out is that the warr. is only valid to the original purchaser, I bought a brand new bongo about a year ago, I played it in my house for about 4 days, I got a deal on it with case and the plastic still on the pickgaurd, it was a 5 HH, I paid $1120 for it, I put it up for sale on TB and I got $950 for it, thats what the market dictates, like jack said you can ask whatever you want for it, but if you really want to sell it I think you need come down to reallity, guitars depriciate faster than cars.

$1500 shipped seems reasonble to me.

Forgive me for being blunt, but what seems reasonable to you is not relevant in any way. Nor is what you paid for it, or "actual" cost. The ONLY thing that counts is what the market thinks the bass is worth, period.

Ask what you want. At $1500 your bass won't sell no matter how reasonable you think the price is, IMHO.

Eventually one of two things will happen: Either you'll decide to keep it because nobody is going to meet your price, or you'll reduce your price enough that the market will react and the bass will sell.

It's really easy to unload instruments in a hurry. I've done it many times. It all depends on how realistic you are about it.

My personal rule of thumb is that a reasonable price for a piece of used gear in good condition is 2/3 of new STREET (not list or what you paid...going street) price. At that price it'll sell in a week or less. If it's dead mint, unplayed, etc. you can ask a bit more, but not a lot. There's just too much supply.

$1500 for a used SR5 isn't reasonable. The used market pretty much dictates the price that you'll get for an instrument wheter it's a week old, or a few years old. Used SR5's go for 800-900 bucks typically, unless it's a limited edition. Even those don't sell for $1500 used. You can ask whatever you want, but at that price it'll never move.

On another note, BP lets people post FS stuff here, but if this gets too outta hand, I'm sure he won't hesitate to cut it out. So hopefully we can all place nice.

Listen, a little common sense here, please.

If I tell you not to post discount prices on new instruments, do you think it's cool to post dealer cost? (Or what you think dealer cost is, anyway.)

I've had to moderate more today than I have in the last 4 months. I don't like doing it, either.
