Hey fellas.

I don't get on here too much lately for one reason or another (1 being to avoid serious GAS!), but I wanted to share a very recent disappointment.

My band hasn't rehearsed for a couple of months due to this and that (2 of us got married, holidays etc). In the meantime, the lead singer (who is also a good friend, as are all the band) and I had a pretty big disagreement. He really wasn't being himself and I said something which must have hit a nerve, cos he got real angry.

Anyways, I thought we'd put it behind us and were getting set to move onwards....I'd lined a room up for us for tomorrow and was really looking fwd to getting back to it.

I called him last night to remind him and........he's quit, so it's basically band over. Too much to go into here, but quotes include not digging our music (he wrote most of it), not wanting to be a front man in a rock band etc etc.

He also thought we should be working towards getting signed, whereas at least 2 of the rest of us just enjoyed it for what it was, no major aspirations y'know? Gigs every few weeks and recording for posterity in between.

I'm gutted. Really disappointed that something I love and really look forward to is over.

I'm also upset that he waited for me to call about the room before he said anything. I understand it was difficult to tell, but he could have got us together to talk it through, even if the end result was the same.....

Have a feeling our great lead guitarist will bale out now too, so I'm looking for either a new lead singer / songwriter or a new band for the drummer and myself.

:( :( :(

Always gutting when this happens ... particularly when the chemistry is right ... however good things sometimes come to an end. Sometimes for the wrong reasons - sometimes for the right reasons.
However depressing this may be - don't lose heart - good luck with finding a new singer / new band, whatever the outcome is... just don't give up.
Went through a similar thing when I was in a band in Liverpool - did a couple of showcase gigs for record companies (one of them Creation records who were doing well with Oasis, Primal Scream etc. at the time), couple of very interested A & R guys sniffing round etc. - only for the singer to leave to do cabaret, because he could earn good money banging out cheesy Beatles covers rather than struggle on trying to get signed as an original band.
I was so gutted I stopped playing guitar for a few years, but the up-side is I got into playing bass, and I am really happy with the new band down in London.
Bands are like relationships imho - ups and downs, and just as things are going well something usually happens to throw a spanner in the works.
However the pleasure still is worth the disappointments you get along the way.

Man, that too bad. But, I went through the same thing roughly and I didn't give up. I found a band that was better for me and all the guys are on the same page. We just played a big show together (my first with them) and I couldn't be happier. Move on and find yourself a singer and get back in the saddle.

Thanks fellas, firstly for reading my long post and secondly for your kind words.

I aim to be back in the saddle ASAP.

I am doing some blues recording with a cuppla old guys (as afavour really) so that'll keep my fingers moving, but I WILL do something new very soon hopefully....

Thanks again

It sounds like you have the right attitude.

Look ahead to the great things to come rather than dwelling on the past and what it could have been (but never will be.).

I wish you good fortune in finding your next gig.

Of course this really sucks, but this happens alot with bands. Don't loose sleep over it, there will always be other great projects out there.
But you are a bassist, which is what everyone is always looking for...you'll always be in demand. If your drummer is sticking by your side, the two of you won't have any trouble dropping into another project.

That is too bad and does hurt when a band meets its end. No matter if hard feelings were the cause or not.

You will find the musicians of like mind with yours. Hang in there.

I know starting over is a bit tough from my own experience. The joy for the music is there still so it is always worth it.

Playing Blues at these times seems rather appropriate too. :)

Hang in there.

Yeah, LSD? (lead singer disease)

It's not fun when a band that you really like breaks up but there will be another one out there. The one I'm in now is probably the most fun I've had with any band so someday I'll be singin' the blues. And to think I was about ready to hang it up when this one came along...

where are you located?

my lead singer and I in our band have been having problems finding a guitar player and a drummer. Im thinking about switching over to guitar for gigging because we cant find a guitar player for the life of us.

Lead singers have no bigger egos than bass players do IMHO.

I quit the day I put down the bass and start rapping. If that is a word. RAP is just an E short of Rape and we all know that is bad.

Now beat me up :)

It is IMHO

Sorry to hear this but it happens.

Look on it as an opportunity to do something different/better.

Whatever you do, don't stop playing.
