So Keith leaves me with this incredible Steve Morse CD and I have been really enjoying it. I have to admit the only other Morse music I own (or owned at one time) was The Introduction and a mix tape of Dixie Dregs that some maniac gave me when I worked the overnight shift at a convenience store many moons ago.

Does this mean I have to get a Morse model now ?! :D

It is an absolutely amazing album, and yes Morse does have majestic playing. I think that word describes his music very well. So far I have not heard anyone play like he does and his compositions, even tho I love others music as well of course.
I am a huge fan of Morse, and it's kind of weird that I am staying away from the Morse model for now. Maybe I am saving the best for last? hehehe

"Ghostwind" makes my hair stand on end from the first strum..

The world is a more beautiful place after the release of that album.

I was lucky enough to have the return flight back from the EBOH with Steve Morse (and oddly, no other forumites).

I told him the last time I'd seen him play live was for that tour. He kind of laughed and said his playing was a lot better now. ;)

I got chat with him off and on for most of the flight, he's a hell of a nice guy. :)

Majestic is a perfect word for HTW. Oddly, I always sort of felt that tumeni notes, while a wonderful shred tune, didn't belong on that album.

But man Ghostwind, talk about a soundscape.

BTW I can't remember if I gave it to you or forgot them there.

Hmmm, oh really.....

On a side note, I left Sunday on a long road trip (visiting a sick friend) without any cd's or tapes (doh). So I stopped at a used record store, and picked up...
1. Royal Scam
2. High Tension Wires-Morse
3. The Koln concert-Keith Jarrett
4. The first chick corea electric band

I'll end up giving all these to pugninjas in vegas as I already own and love them all.

:p :p

Absolutely my favorite Morse CD as well. Ghostwind is a masterpiece. Country Colors too. I hate to think how many copies of that CD I have bought to turn friends on to Steve's music. Gotta be at least 20. Never fails to blow them away.

I thank Steve Morse for getting me out of the shredder mentality of the 80's. A guy in our old metal band got us to cover 'Tumeni Notes' and that got me into Morse, which expanded my musical horizons.
Anyone ever read his interview in Guitar Player's 'Secrets from the Masters' book?

Probably the best guitar/music insight I've ever read. Get the book if you don't have it...great book.

+1 on everything that's been said! (Um, excluding Keith's tragic Tourettes moment.)

Funnily enough, I had Southern Steel and Coast to Coast in University. I loved them but never really explored more of Morse. After that I'd given up the guitar for a few years, and hearing those albums again just killed me! Got back into it - and all the Morse stuff - with a vengeance.

Chapter 1, Page 1

Boy that Norm can be a dick.
And then it just writes itself from there.

So anyway, "Endless Waves" and "Modoc" (the last two songs on HTW) really do it for me. I learned "Endless Waves at on time and what a great song to play. Modoc sounds fantastic and whenever I play the CD I have to listen to that song twice. Modoc is also one of the very few songs that Steve uses an alternate tuning on guitar (Eb) <-- (Pronounced "E-Flat" but it's still a little ironic that it's the letters "E" and "B") Also, I am proud of myself on this post for my "judicious " use of quotation marks.
