DOB-inquiriy

The "late 90s Stingray" I got from Jack has got serial # D 08711.

What's the DOB?

And the body is ash, right?

Btw, the bass is great!!!:D

Thanks!

Hi Pierre.

Subjrect to Dan's observations, it would seem that the "B" (and "D") serial is relatively rare when one compares it to subsequent SR4 serials which are prefixed with an "E".

Gav, very true! Production in those days was nowhere near what it is now, coupled with the relatively short life of both of those prefixes (so far).

Hi Dan,
Could you give me some info about my Stingray B03407 (wood, DOB) that I bought in 1996. I also read that Bxxxxx is a rare serial number is it really the case for my bass :) ???
Thx a lot :)
Pierre

Pierre,

There were around 1100 StingRays shipped from Ernie Ball Music Man having 5 digits and and starting with the letter 'B'. The time period for those was from 4/96 through 2/97.

Yours was completed on 5/3/96. The wood would have been poplar.

The serial numbers starting with 'D' followed, and was used from 1/97 till 1/98. We have been using 'E' since then.

No Dan I think they are the same year.....the other is E34451 (white SR5 HS maple board, shipped out to Strings and Things UK)

Unless I got the date wrong on that one .....

Let me know please, I love the coincidence if they are correct....

roballanson, you are correct, your white HS was also completed on March 1st of this year. Wow - that's fantastic that two basses you have, probably bought at different times from different dealers, were actually born on the same day. Imagine the odds of that happening.... too cool!

Sterling data

Dan,
Here's mine: Sterling F02921...Neck 9/18/00 (Initial in pencil reads “W”. Also an imprint stamp with letter "B"). Body August (5?) rubber-stamped. Pencilled date illegible other than year 00. “TRANS” and “170” also appear in body pocket. Trans Gold with Rosewood. Black pg.

Just wondering how these dates correlate with any other info in your database, as well as the dealer it was shipped to..

may thanks, Dan!!

Mike,

Man, you have done your homework!

THE "W" is probably the person who worked on the neck. Not sure what the 'B' is for. '170' is the model #, Trans is because the body was pre-selected for a Trans finish such as Trans Gold.

This Sterling bass was completed on 9/20/00 and was shipped to Perkin's Music House in central Maine.

:D :D

Dan

That is just well cool!!!!

They must have come into the UK via Strings and things and eventually ended up at the same dealer...my friend Nick.

Such a smart thing to happen...:D

Stingray info?

Hi there.
I have a rather battered but much loved stingray with serial no: 25993 on the bridge. At least i assume its the serial number as i cant find a number anywhere else.

Can you tell me anything about the bass?

I can tell you that the previous owner was Rob "Bass Thing" Jones of The Wonderstuff, and that I've had it since the early 90's - i think !

Many thanks
Steve Hill
