I have Schaller on all of my basses. True, the original EB screws have a bit too large of a head to fit down in the recess of the button on the bass, but if you add a drop of glue as stated earlier, it will stay tight and still let you remove it if need be.
You can put a small dab of low strength lock tite with a Q tip on the nuts on the strap to keep them from loosening as well.

I use the Schaller locks on my basses as well. to deal with the smaller screw I went to the local hardware store and bought the same diameter screw that came with the straplocks but I bought them an inch longer so that they went into fresh wood. I have not had any problems with mine.

Um, Kirby says that the Schallers don't fit the stock screws but Larry and Tim said they do... Tastes great... Less filling...

Yeah, I agree. I hope it's something we can order versus only coming with new basses.

The most common failure I see at shows... the big rataining nut that holds the lock onto the strap. It always comes unscrewed on people and the strap falls off, bang!

Having just bought my first EB instrument, I would have been more than happy to pay an extra $20-$25 for strap-locks installed from the factory. Not really sure why they were never installed during assembly by any instrument manufacturer. They are more than worth it.

To me, that's like checking my tuning. Before my strap goes on my bass I check the nuts on the strap locks to make sure they're tight.

Schaller user - I do the LockTite on the strap threads as well and still check the nut from time to time...
Come to think of it, I don't remember using the new screws with the earlier Schaller locks that I have used, but I definitely have had to use the new screws within the last couple of years. The stock screws are just a hair too big to fit into the recess of the button.
Maybe Schaller has changed their design or we are getting different stock screws on EB basses now. Either way, it has not been much of an issue.

20 year Dunlop user here, never had a problem with them, no drops, and have never had to drill out holes to fit the Dunlop screws. All my basses (except the little Steinberger copy) wear Dunlops, as do all my straps.

My screws fit fine . . . . no modifications needed, and they sat down in the Schaller locks exactly like the screws from Schaller. I don't know if there is any difference in the strap peg screws on various EBMM models, but all three of my Bongos fit great, and they range from early to pretty recent production.

A little dab of threadlock when you put them on (and get them tight enough) and that is a non-problem . . . .

With me it's not an issue of which one I prefer, it's an issue of which one I bought first. I have all 5 of my basses equipped with Schallers and all 5 straps have them too. I just started out with the Schallers and saw no reason to switch mid-stream.

Dunlop user here and even though I did fling my Stingray across the dance floor, it was my problem and my mistake, not the straplocks.
I had Schallers for a while, too, and liked them fine.
Both systems obviously work well and it comes down to personal pref. Like Larry, I just have too many now to think about switching.
Until the Ernie Ball system becomes available, that is.
