I play a Mesa Road King through a Peavey 5150 cab.
Really worth trying. I personally like the sound better than through the Mesa cab I´ve owned before. Never underestimate the 5150 (or 6505) cab! Great for soloing and to have for low money.

Yeah l agree, when l had my Mesa Dual Rec. l prefered my peavey 5150 cab with it, compared to the Mesa 4x12.

The Recto cab is great for rhythm playing but I´m the lead player in our band and to my mind the 5150 is perfect for that.

First solid state (transistor) amp here :D

I am surprised (well not that much) to see all tube amps

no one is using a JC120 or similar ?

yip its been a great Amp and for my Acoustic gigs its usually just me and my Flattop so i run a vocal Mic through Channel 1 through my maximizer and a delay and my acoustic in channel 2 through channel b of the maximizer ...................it has 2 seperate amps a 40 for vocals and a 40 for guitar plus a horn great for solid state rig :D

I Mesa should of done what Custom Audio Electronics did with the 3+se, on the solo boost have a seperate eq, just a treble and bass and volume. Cause l didn't really like the solo boost on the mesa, it seemed kinda useless, but the guy that bought mine already had a 2 channel one, and wanted a 3 channel one so, he uses channel 1 and 2 for rhythm (clean and dirty) and the third channel (red) as a solo channel.

Weird about the 5150 cabs, I didn't care for them at all when I was cabinet shopping. :eek:

I didn't like any slant-front cabinets actually, acoustically I believe they are incorrect.

I ended up going with 2 Mesa Traditional 4x12 straights (not the big Recto fartboxes ;)).

Laney LH50, an underrated, solid, simple and versatile 6L6 amp. No longer made as a head only.

Cabs are ½ open back Ear Candy. I chose these purely for there flat/even response, even replaced much more expensive Alessandro cabs for these. No swells or drops in these guys at all. One’s loaded with an Eminence Wizard and one with Eminence GB128, and they sound great together. Sent my V30’s packing after hearing these.

You know Paul, if my Rivera ever dies, I'll probably sport that same preamp/poweramp combo.

Although I may need a bit more girth in power.

But I'm a bigger fan of EL34's vs 6L6's. :)

I had the 2:90, but I like my back in one piece so I sold it. Plus it was simply to0 much power for what I do. The 20/20 has been more than enough so far. :)

very nice rigs out there!

i also never thought about a 5150 cab. maybe it´s because peavey hasn´t the best reputation over here.

@paul:
really cool setup.

@tristan:
is the 1X12" marshall equiped with the "heritage marshall" speaker?
it looks like one of these cabs from teh JTM 30/60 series.

yes my friend !!! those heritage speakers are very hard to find, and it sounds better than anytinhing I've heard...more bass, mi, high, presence and punch....

it's a JTMC12 jubilee series...I've paid 100€ for it...the guy dod not know the chabce he had...:eek: :)

yup, i had 2 of that speakers in my 4x12er mixed up with 2 Vintage30s.
very cool sounding, they go better with marshalls or amps sounding this way, than with rectos or roadsters.
i changed them with a good friend of mine and he gave me 2 G12T75s.
so my cabs are equiped with 2xV30 and 2xG12T75s, like the "bogner Überschall" cab, now.

btw. here is picture of the rack i use with the mesa heads.

rack.jpg

i´m thinking of adding a furman powerconditioner to it, but if i do so, i´ll need a more rackspace....from one to the other....the never ending story.
