Personally, I'm embarassed for Peavey on how much the Wolfgangs steal from the EB. Even the headstock takes the same general shape. Sure, the wolfgangs are good looking guitars, but it still seems like a really good copy to me.

I've only played a wolf one time, and I just missed the EVH Dimarzio's too much. The Bridge pickup can't be beat. That is THE seller on the Axis for me.

Besides, who wants to be seen playing a PEAVEY guitar? Peavey? Come on . . .

its weird isnt it. i played so many wolfgangs because i loved the shape and tone, and because so many shops had them. but i never could bring myself to buy one, something was always not quite right with the neck. felt kinda cheap. as soon as i played an Axis SS it felt RIGHT. SOLD!

That´s what I thought. The only reason for selling my EVH could be that I´m gonna buy a JP. Like that one a bit better. But I will definitely stay with EBMM.

I have a nice Wolfgang standard, the neck wasn't to bad, but l didn't like the pickups in it, but now a mate uses it, and he's pretty happy with it, at one stage l had a wolfgang special as well, all l can say is, what a peice of junk it was, they were 2 seperate guitars, and you could tell when you first picked it up.

Well... It's quite elementary...

You have an original piece of craftsmanship and quality in the EBMM and then you have a copy of the art work in Peavey... I' ve never liked Peavey necks...

I'll second that.

These EBMM guitars/necks have spoiled me. I've owned 3 wolfgangs, and I sold them all when I got my Axis. If I did get a Wolfgang, it would only be the stoptail version. The trem model's neck doesn't have that same "broken in" feel that the Axis does.

I've tried other manufacturers' guitars, and none of them feel right. Hell, the Ibanez I bought on eBay last week, might be going back up for sale. Freakin' log of a guitar, and it's gotta be the fattest neck I've ever played on (that wasn't a bass).

Did anybody ever try the Peavey HP Special, the follower of the Wolfgang?

I always wanted to try one. But after I got my Custom Wolfgang and even that one wasn´t comparable to the MMs I can´t believe the HP is.

The US made HP got panned in Guitarist magazine as substandard quality for the price, so I never even bothered to pick one up and try it myself...

I'll give it this, some of the pictures l've seen of some of them, they look pretty good, but l think they are trying to force one more prs/les paul type guitar on the market.

Could be the reason why there are lots of mahogany HP´s produced. Maybe they try to jump on the PRS train.

I have an HP Special, it is a fabulous guitar in every way, except one...IMHO, it has no personality. It's like a Wolfgang that wants to be a PRS. The Wolfgang had personality, it was muscular and purposeful and no nonsense, like it's daddy, the EVH/Axis. The HPS...I don't know. Like I said, great guitar, but my HPS is a Custom Shop. BTW, the neck is shallower on the HPS than the Wolfgang or the Axis.

Okay, deep breath..."Hello, my name is Robert, and I like the Wolfgang".

Seriously, I'm going to break with the crowd and say the Wolfgang is a great guitar. I have owned (and still own) some FABULOUS Wolfgangs, both Custom Shop and production. Okay, full disclosure, I have personally owned 31 Wolfgangs. Unfortunately, as I sell off Wolfgangs, I appear to be catching up with EBMMs. :D I'm not commenting on the lineage or originality of the Wolfgang, I'm just saying that out of 31 of them, there were ZERO dogs. ZERO, ZIP, NADA. They are a quality, well-built, USA-made guitar, in my experience.

Where the EBMM undeniably wins (for me) is consistency. Every one of my EBMMs is a 10 out of 10. All of my EBMMs are the equal (or better) of my best Wolfgangs, Custom Shop or production. Also, I have non-upgrade tops on EBMMs that are better than the Custom Shop quilts from Peavey. EBMM must have a super secret stash of nice wood...my very best Wolfgang or HPS quilt can't touch EBMM. But, I have had some Wolfs with birdseye that was just absurdly great. Finally, there is an undeniable variation in Wolfgang neck dimensions. I have some that feel like a baseball bat, and some that feel like an Ibanez. It's weird. I like the baseball bat...more like an Axis.

I'm down to less than 10 Wolfgangs, but rapidly approaching that number of EBMMs. I like the EBMMs better.

"Hello, my name is Robert, and I prefer EBMMs to Wolfgangs...":) :)
