But words are all we have on this here internet thingy.
(Well, and photos. And videos. And - wait, I'm hijacking myself.)
I want to thank each and every one of you Forumites who took time and spent money and found a way to spend your weekend with us. Birthdays come and go and I don't remember many of my past birthdays, but this one - well, I have this feeling it might be one to remember. I certainly never expected anything like this. And I never lose my sense of wonder about any of this - believe me.
So my cowboy hat is off to you guys, the Faithful Knuckleheads of the EBMM Forums. I appreciate your attendance.
Without my wife, the lovely Miss Erika....well, her original idea was on a somewhat smaller scale, if I remember correctly, but once it grew into this HUGE EVENT, she got behind it and worked hard to make sure things were right. Without her organizational skills and her ability to talk people into doing what she wants them to do, I don't know where we would have been.
Derek and the advance crew filled my house up (thanks!) then emptied it out again and robbed local retailers and made sure that the stage and the sound equipment were perfect. Now my house is full again! Yes! Seriously, those guys made it look easy and I know it wasn't. And Derek Brooks is just about the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet.
And who wouldn't be glad to look around and find Dudley G at your party? And Jon and Jon and Jon and Jon (there are four, right?) and Beth and Drew and Jon and that other Jon and The Evil Dargin! (Where was Brian?)
I put Tiffles on a bus tonight to Jackson in the pouring rain, which sounds like a country song but is actually true. She helped Erika and also took a bunch of photos for us, which I will post as soon as I am not hung over.
When that will be, I do not know.
Cowpilot. God bless them, they were scared and so was I, but we had a drink or two and got up there and were hardly peeing ourselves at all. This was the first time - EVER - that my sister was able to see me play live. And even though she said, "Jeez, you guys sucked", I still thought it was nice that she was able to finally see me suck. I made some of that up, but in any case, those Cowpilot boys are real troopers.
Ed Friedland! Ed Friedland came and ate BBQ and played and stuff and gave me some of his instructional books and a DVD and I said, "By God, Ed, if there is anyone that needs it, it's me."
Ben Alsup brought us Tyler, but even without that, Ben is one hell of a good friend and he plays a Bongo so there.
Speaking of which, did anyone hear what Jeremy answered when I asked him about his favorite bass? Yes!
The All-Stars just tore it up. They are all just amazing.
Tony Spinner, thank you and thanks also to your lovely wife, whose accent made me feel like I was amongst family. Tony, those old wankers need you up front for all kinds of good reasons.
Dave LaRue, it was YOU that scared me! How am I going to play bass in front of Dave LaRue? I'll tell you how: I pretended that you were a member of the Wiggles. We finally got a chance to hang out a little and talk and it's nice to get to know you. (And your Bongo is at my house and I can't promise you anything regarding its fate.) Thanks, Dave!
John Go Wild Ferraro! I wish you lived in my neighborhood. That's all I'm saying because you already know.
Luke. Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuke. You got a big heart, man. Thank you so much for finding the time to make it to Texas. There is no one else on earth like you. Just - thanks.
Biff, there are only a few things I can say to you at this point.
You've changed my life.
A man could not possibly hope for a better friend.
Thank you, boss.
Jackie
