Hi There, this is my first thread so please excuse me if I stuff it up.

Anyhow, I have been reading up the Musicman Sterling Bass. It sounds like an awesome bass.

Can anyone tell me why they think this is so?

Also, the bass is very expensive in Australia <price removed by Arin>. So I was thinking the next time I am in the states I could pick one up.

Can anyone recommend a store. I will be in LA and Las Vegas only.

Thanks for your help guys.

Welcome Ian, the Sterling is named after a chap that frequents (and pays for) this forum. The neck is a bit smaller as is the body compared to the other EBMM basses. If you do pick up a bass in the states, just be aware that you probably won't have any warranty in Australia. What part of Australia do you live in?

hey buddy,

welcome to the forum!

you are correct, the Sterling is an amazing bass! its my favorite... i have a couple ;)

why is it great?

1) the neck is soooo comfortable
2) the oil n wax finish on the neck makes it smoothe as hell (fast player)
3) the preamp is very, very versetile
4) the pickup switch adds to the basses versatility (modes from neck to bridge: humbucker in series, single coil humbucker is parallel)
5) hot output (the lil guy can get mean if you want it to)
6) downsized body is super comfortable for me
7) they look sweet
8) i play em
9) they're named after and designed by my friend :)

You should totally try one out if you can

stick around... this is a fun place to hang out

Ps: i removed the prices in your post. One of the few forum rules is that we are not allowed to post "street price" (the discounted price a dealer offers it). however you can post used prices and full retail prices

Thanks Colin, I realize it may not have an Aussie warranty but the price is almost double in Aust than USA.

Thanks Arin,

I was unaware of the price policy. I was merely trying to point out that the guitars are almost double the cost in Aust as compared to the US. The prices I quoted were full retail prices in Australia $3,500AUD.

Hi Ian,

I got the same problem, living in Europe and thus paying extra for imported gear.
There's always a chance if you buy a bass in the states and arrive on the airport that customns will notice it and ask you to pay import taxes and taxes.
InBelgium it's a bit vague how much these import duties are, but it can be anytyhing between 4 and 30%. After import taxes you'll have to pay vat which is 21% for my country.

That and the warranty issue make me buy my gear in Europe. Which is the whole point of these taxes. :S

As to the Sterling, see Arins post.
Last week was the first time I tried one and to me it's neck is PERFECT!
Unfortunately I compared it to a SR 30 which had more buttom.
Can't wait to try out a SR5 HH, since I hope that one is the best of both worlds. :)

Btw. in the stickies there is a link to some movies where BP demonstrates all bases. Very cool. Check it out!
