Thinking about picking up a Petrucci but I have some Q's for the board.

1. What are some online dealers with the best prices?

2. How does everyone feel about the new d-sonic pickup versus the original bridge pickup?

Thanks!

Give Pete DuBaldo a shot. He's an EBMM dealer who hangs out here on the forum. Outstanding reputation for customer service and satisfaction.

I only have a JP with the original pickup, so I can't compare it to the D-Sonic, although there have been threads here with that exact discussion. Try the search function and see if they're readily located.

1. I don't know. I haven't really gone and compared prices. If I didn't go into a store and fall in love with the 20th Anniversary Silo I found there, I would have bought my next guitar from Pete DuBaldo. So, I'm now back to that plan for 2007. That decision is not based on price, mind you. It's based on a level of service that Pete delivers again and again. Plus, he's probably more knowledgeable than most dealers, because he's just as passionate about these instruments as every other forum regular.

2. To me, the D-Sonic provides a certain "clarity" for lack of a better term. It's more in-your-face, I think. Is it better? Not really. Just different. The JP rocked before, and it still rocks. It just rocks a little differently. Personally, if I had the choice between the two, I wouldn't go out of my way to get a JP with D-Sonic. If I found two JPs and one had the D-Sonic and one didn't. I'd pick the one that felt better to me or looked better to me. So long as that's (D-Sonic) what's coming from the factory, well...I'm fine with it. If I found a JP that I liked without D-Sonic, well, I'd still buy it. It doesn't make that much of a difference to me. Both pickups are great, IMHO.
