Andrew, many people use Purple heart, most commonly used as a fingerboard, but very common in neck laminates as well, and sometimes for tops. It has a pretty beefy focused tone.

My dream is a single H Bongo in lightweight ash with an oil finished neck.
I'd love to see figured maple return for necks/fingerboards, but I know they're hard to get these days.
Unfortunately, I think Fender has exclusive rights to the Hello Kitty usage on guitars. Bummer.
Now that is a crying shame... Epiphone got Pirates of the Caribbean... I guess this leaves EBMM to their own original ideas. Just the way I like it.![]()
I think nashman's wish list is not the kind of thing that BFR is all about. My take on it is that a BFR is not going to be functionally different in any way from a stock instrument. But that's just speculation.
You are probably right. I was just brainstorming with ideas that were outside the box ...
