Andrew, many people use Purple heart, most commonly used as a fingerboard, but very common in neck laminates as well, and sometimes for tops. It has a pretty beefy focused tone.

great for outdoor furniture too. Unique in that it seals itself as it ages so no painting, lacquering, oiling needed.

I love everything bout my Musicmans, and the only way I could love them more would be to have them in ultra figured, exhibition grade woods on the body, neck, and fingerboard.
I like the Ken Smith website because of all the nice pics. and info on the different woods available.
Whenever I see dave larue's dallas bongo, I notice how perfectly the grain follows the curves of the bongo. That's some mighty fine detail.

I'd love to see figured maple return for necks/fingerboards, but I know they're hard to get these days.

Isn't that the whole idea behind BFR? Ultra-limited edition instruments that are several notches above regular stock, making use of relatively rare pieces of wood. Say, for example, a rosewood-necked bass... or awesome birds-eye....

I think nashman's wish list is not the kind of thing that BFR is all about. My take on it is that a BFR is not going to be functionally different in any way from a stock instrument. But that's just speculation.

It's fun to cook up these ideas, but as BP said we should not expect anything at all to come of it. I have to believe, though, that at some level stuff like this does get paid attention to... so as long as we keep it reasonable it might have some small impact on the brain trust. After all, that's how the DD happened, right?

Even if our input comes to naught, the BFR basses will no doubt be stunning. EBMM has been doing a fine job of making stuff that we like so far!

Put me in for a dense figured birdseye maple neck with a curly or flamed maple cap over the body. A beautiful stain, color is no matter and a deep finish you can dive into. I know these woods are hard to come by now, but WOW, when you see one it really takes your breath away......and your wallet :p

Unfortunately, I think Fender has exclusive rights to the Hello Kitty usage on guitars. Bummer.

Now that is a crying shame... Epiphone got Pirates of the Caribbean... I guess this leaves EBMM to their own original ideas. Just the way I like it. :D

This might be available...

You are probably right. I was just brainstorming with ideas that were outside the box ...
