This might not be much help, but I did switch out the neck pickup in two of my Axis'. I threw a Dimarzio Humbucker From Hell in both of them. It really gave me the single coil, yet hot, sound I wanted. I don't know what you are looking for, but that pickup really blew me away.

paging Dr. Beej.........

Haha! Thanks Anthony.

I'm a big fan of these. Though the XL is really hot. I had one in an N4 and found it was a bit too much output for my tastes (though very clear and well balanced).

I've got an R and an L in another guitar (not an axis) and love 'em (I've had them in other guitars as well). They're really well balanced pickups that sound great when you roll back the volume- they clean up well. If you're buying these right from BL you might think about ordering the Q-Filter. It's pretty cool too.

I've had an l-500xl in one of my axis SS's for a couple of years now. it's a little hot but I've found that it turned that particular guitar into a great contrast to the stock axis SS I was already using. putitng them both together makes for a nice set. I also put a DiMarzio evolution in the bridge of another SS I had laying around. I really don't tend to use it except for solos and random bizarre noises because of the output difference between it and the stock neck pickup.

all together I really do like the stock pickups a bit more than any combination I've tried to use in my axis guitars thus far.

I've tried a few different pickups in EBMM's I've owned. So far my two favorites have been an Anderson H3 in the bridge of a Silhouette Special and a PRS HFS in the bridge of an old Silhouette. Not to say I don't like the pups that come in them, I do, but variety is the spice of life.

They are great pickups. But so are the stock Axis PUs- they are killer.

The 500XL sounds like what you want if you're looking to nail those sounds.

I have 2 silos with BL's. I just got an Axis 2 weeks ago. You know what? I do NOT like the pick up in the axis at all compared to the BL's I am even thinking of selling the Axis...:( i can't bring myself to change pick ups or pots in a guitar of that value!!!! I came accross this thread looking for an answer to see if the BL L500XL would be a drop in fit on the axis...

You have to consider the Axis pickups are not easy to swap out, as they screw in. You would probably have to modify the lugs on a replacement pickup to make them fit.

ex3.8, That sunburst Silo Special looks sweet! If you were closer I'd have to figure out something to trade you for it..... :D
