I saw this on the youtubeeee a couple months ago. Didnt particularly care for it because its stuff like this that gives Vic a bad rep. Plus I dont really like the whole guitar style that his buddy is going for.

I like how the crowd cheers when the guitarist plays that one recognizable lick which it now escapes me what song it's from.

The rest of it, they just kind of sit there like watching surgery or something.

OUCH!!!

I have a Strat just like that... big 70's headstock, maple board, olympic white... and if I played it like that, it would be covered in blood. My right hand would be bloody hamburger. That's GOT to be painful! My hand aches just watching him slap on those little... sharp... strings. --cringe--

Gotta dig Love Rollercoaster, though. The Ohio Players. Cool.

How many times did you see Vic's thumb on top of the neck? Over the the top? There is a lesson there. I am just not sure I got it.

I love Vic's playing but that's not a very good representation of him. It's mostly noise on both their parts. I will say this, at least Vic is plucking out notes and rhythms the guitarist is just hitting the darn thing and hoping for the best and he get's the most response.

pretty funky when vic breaks it down into the slower tempo!
I'm always impressed how he can make grooves that leave no space whatsoever groove

Well, there's 3 minutes 50 seconds of my life gone I'll never get back.

Souless crap!

May as well be watching 2 guys playing on typewriters. That sort of thing does absolutely nothing for me. Sure, I can appreciate the technical skill, but it really doesn't move me one bit. Give me a good Rocco/Jamerson/Babbit/Rainey/Dunn etc groove any day.

I'm glad I wasn't the only person to be slightly underwhelmed by that. As others have said, technically it's very good, but it didn't make me sit up and go "wow!" If anything I was a bit bored - I think I'd have to agree with bassmonkey and call it soulless!

A huge blast of notes, desparately in search of a melody? Perhaps that's why they applauded for the few bars of Rollercoaster - finally something recognizable!

As others have said, technically good, but totally without soul . . . .

Ha! I was there. . . Bass Day 1999 or 2000, NYC, Manhattan Center.

Lots of fun.

Don't miss the point. . . they weren't trying to make beautiful melodies or improvise masterpieces. . . it is just plain fun between very unique brothers that are known in part for their particular double-thumb technique. . .

Notes are not important here. . . it's like they are telling a silly joke to each other, not reciting poems.

That is all. Happy fun. :p

It's not wanking when you are doing it on purpose for a specific effect.

Yes that is Reggie, Vic's brother. It's all just tounge-in-cheek, they're just screwing off...or are you guys saying they're not alowed to?
