oh how I love thee my MM basses... let me count the ways....


ok, so I'm just doing a little tweak for a buddy of mine on his Gibson era (USA made, low serial#) Tobias Killer B 5 string.... ya, the neck needs a little relief... you think I can find the right tool here to adjust the dual truss rod that will fit in the truss compartment???

Ooh I can just about handle the trussrod, just wish you guys could make some azzy-proof saddles as my last attempt at tweaking those left my bass unplayable!

But if any trussrod changes sound nasty, I can just turn the wheel back - that's the beauty of it Unmessupable!

Azzy my dear you should almost never have to adjust your saddles....thats where people really get messed up the truss rod handles 90% of the action issues.

I must say, after my initial..."it can't be that simple", email to Ernie Ball, I have accepted the fact that it is infact that simple...(I actually asked them if I needed a special wrench to turn it...Duh! It is especially convenient here in central pa were the humidity changes like the wind...thanks.

The trussrod wheel to me is just so EBMM. Well thought out, solid and functional while still being pleasing to the eye.

I can think of some trussrods where you need to get the neck slackened to get a screwdriver in.

But DaveB fixed it for me and now I can safely promise you that I will never touch the saddles again. Ever. Never ever. Not until Foggy gets his first EB and hell freezes over...

I have actually adjusted the action on my SR5 while ON STAGE, DURING A SONG, in the middle of a DRUM SOLO.

Truss rod wheel = complete and unequivocable genius.

Man, it literally puts a smile on my face thinking of the innovation present in EBMM basses. I was actually contemplating bass construction the other day. It's almost a Zen thing: each part fits together in an efficient and simple way, leading to an item that is not one drop more complicated than it needs to be. Something incredibly satisfying there.
