Before this, I had a Dingwall Afterburner which I loved to death but had to sell for financial reasons. I had played a Bongo before so I knew I would like it. There are some things I preferred about the Dingwall, but there are some major advantages to the Bongo that I have found already. For instance, after playing the Dingwall, the Bongo seems smaller due to the 34" scale so I don't have to strech as much for the low notes. Also, one thing I commonly heard about the HH Bongos was that they were difficult to slap/pop on. I am no slapaholic, am actually an average slapper at best, but I have not had any problems with this. My favorite thing about the Bongo so far is the high end on this thing is just magic. It is extremely present without being the least bit harsh. The harmonics are also outstanding. Even though I had played one before, I am still impressed. The initial plan was to get another Dingwall as soon as I get back on my feet, money-wise. The plan has now been revised :D I am thinking a fretless Bongo 5 HH would look real good next to this one...maybe in Blue Dawn....

Anyways, here are some pics of my new beauty. I'll be taking her to practice for the first time tomorrow and rockin it at a big New Years Eve show on Sunday. I'll post follow-ups to anyone who cares.

Dingwalls got my baby!

No, really, some of my best friends play Dingwalls.

That's a nice looking Bongo you have there. Sounds like you have a plan, and I like all plans that involve multiple Bongos. (I have a bit of a problem myself.)

you get over the logan green...just take two club sodas and call jack in the morning

You might get over the logan green, but not if you toss in the flames.

Now what's the quote about the club soda? Something like, "After the fifth or sixth club soda, it begins to taste like....club soda."

Still, there is something so basically hip about a Desert Gold Bongo.

Is a DG Bongo now considered classic? That's kind of a scary thought.

I haven't seen too many Bongos in person, but I like the DG a lot especially with this whiteish pickguard (cracked ice??). I know a lot of DG owners like tort guard but I think the white really sets off the DG finish and makes it look brighter.

I don't remember now how many Desert Gold Bongos I've had, but I can think of at least two.

I had a number of pickguards on the four banger and then a tort on the fiver.

I'm pretty sure I also had a white mother of toilet seat on one of these. It's seriously hard to go wrong with that DG finish.
