OT: Cab Tweeters. Do you like/use them?

I've never been a huge fan of tweeters but my Berg 2x10 has made me think twice about that. Most tweeters I've had experience with have been pretty harsh but the Berg is rather smooth. That being said, my primary band is a blues/rock trio and recently I've been experimenting with turning the tweeter all the way off. So my question is: if your cab has a tweeter, do you use it? Do you find it as useful in rock and blues music?

No, but the Berg is the exception for me too. I have an HT122s right now that sounds phenomenal. I did have an early schroeder 1212 that really benefited from the tweeter cranked up.

BTW, how well does the Littlemark push your shallow berg stack? I was using an Ashdown before too. Enough power, but I found it too dark for me.

Ill chime in with few thoughts.

Andrew, I dont like tweets/horns. Most Ive heard just sounded too brittle and/or harsh. Im with you on the Bergs. Very smooth. Pleasant and not harsh. They dont sound "seperate" from the woofers.

Other than the Bergs the one of the only tweets/horns in cabs that didnt drive crazy were in my GK Neo212/Neo115 rig. I used them with a 1001RB-II in bi-amp mode back when I had my GK deal. I was pleased with the sound of those and how they balanced with the woofers.

Not long ago I got a NOS EBMM HD-210. While they HD-212 has a mid range type driver in favor of a horn, the HD-210 has what was called a "super tweeter" in old press releases. I find it to be smooth also. Despite the lack of a tweet adjustment on the HD-210 it is a very well balanced sounding cab.

So I guess that sums up my thoughts.

Don't like them. My SWR cabs have them, but fortunately come with attenuators, so I can turn them off. I also attacked my Ampeg 2x8 combo with a soldering iron to disconnect it's tweeter.

Anyone care to tell me how to bypass a tweeter in my Avatar Cab? I know I can turn it down but its still sending the highs to the tweeeter and I want the highs to the subs also..

I like the subtle uppers they can add if not used too much. I usually as a rule never run them over 50 % on my SWR's and Edens. Over 50% tends to get a bit harsh for me.

... and keyboard and wind synth players too. My HT112's are, outside of the Bose PAS, the best speakers I've ever played thru! My key/synth amp setup is my MarkBass Club 450 and one or two Bergantino cabs. The wind controller patches I use will quickly show what a tweeter is made of and the Berg's are the smoothest I've ever heard, very musical.

But I too an not a big fan of tweeters for bass, I don't notice them on the Berg's but my Ampeg B-15-R the tweeters... well give tweeters a bad name, and are turned off.

My main cab is an EA Wizzy, so it doesn't even have a tweeter. When I use my Yamaha BBT-110 as an extension cab, I have the tweeter turned off. I find that I still have as much top end as I need/want.

all i know is that SWR "horns" sound so amazingly bad, that I disconnect them.
No, I don't just turn them off, I disconnect them. They hiss worse than the ney sayers in "The Passion".
I do like the horn in my eden 1X12, only because it stays out of the way.

I keep mine on at about %25 on my Ampeg PR410HLF. I will sometimes change it according to the acoustics of the room.

i think i have the tweater on my Aguilar GS410 off. its either all the way down or on pretty damn low.

since using PJB stuff, I reeeeeally don't like tweeters and prefer the natural high-end off of a smaller speaker. The top end on the PJB stuff is great, probably much like the highs you'd get from the MusicMan Mid drivers or "super tweeters"

...but I am looking forward to hearing the AccuGroove stuff @ NAMM and they do have tweets so I'll see what that all is about.

I use the tweeter in my Neo 212 & really enjoy the tone when just the right amount is dialed in. (I biamp it.)

I too am a Neo 212 user but keep my tweeter completely off.
