see what happens when a female even posts that they might play bass in public!
In less than a week you get like 62 posts and 730 views!
Just imagine how the male/lesbian audience will be eating out of our hand when you are up there feedin them the rump rattlin' low end they crave.
Especially in Idaho!
I'm telling you, as an observer of the true reality of the nature of the beast.
It's so easy...be young, pretty, female, and play bass.
You can "make it" and make some music and cash!
Then, listen to Maria Scheider Jazz Orchestra, and know she's the writer...trained by Gil, himself.
on your gigs...
If you feel like having a drink..then do. If not...then don't. Some people can't play for sh!t when slightly intoxicated.
Charlie Parker pawned his horn for a couple CCs of heroin before a show/sesh.

I remember my first gig like it was yesterday and you all know what a bad day yesterday was. ho ho!
Seriously though, I was very nervous for my first few gigs but when that went I really started enjoying myself.
i wouldn't worry about making mistakes - I have been in the same band for the last 10 years and we have around 80 years playing experience between us and we still make mistakes.
the difference is that we laugh about it. We haven't practiced in 5 years so what we do is learn a song between gigs and just play it on the night.
People really don't notice that you have made a mistake. Unless of course you are doing someone's wedding and they have a camcorder. then they send you the tape a couple of weeks afterwards.
In 10 years we have played 2 songs really badly - a kind of unknown Abba song called "I do I do I do" and Bon Jovi's "Always". It was the second one that is on tape for posterity. Mainly due to the singer deciding to change the key on the night and that I really hadn't bothered to learn the song at all.
Any time we make an obvious mistake, the drummer's first word on the mic is "jazz".
Always good for a laugh, even after 10 years we still have a laugh at each other's mistakes and the audience are oblivious to it all.

On a side note. Its real funny to me because until I started reading and getting involved in these forums, I had no idea what age BP was.
Previous to this, I knew that the Sterling was named after him but when I read it, it made me think that BP was a young teenager and the great EB had named it after him.
I didn't even realise that BP played bass, let alone as good as he does.
Anyhoo, back to the thread.
Nervous? before you know it you'll be making all sort of bass faces just like the guy above.

I was nervous the first like 3 times I played live. Then one day it occured to me that if the people in the crowd arent musicians themselves (which usually the case) they have no idea when you mess up or what a bass even is. That took alot of the edge off. Now I am really just relaxed on stage and my playing and stage performance have really improved.
