Blame my clumsiness, allied to my failure to rest that assymetric body shape in a secure guitar stand. But, oh no I've just knocked my 94 AL over and put a scratch in the neck:eek:

I don't think it's too serious, the scratch isn't even a millimetre deep but it's there and I can feel it.
It's funny bumps and scratches in the body don't really get to me but surface imperfections in the neck are a bit like nails down a black board for me...

Anyone got a suggestion on this one ?

Would rewaxing/ oiling the neck do it do you reckon ?

Damn damn damn damn damn

A few months from now, you won't even notice the scratch is there.

Trust me--been there, done that.

Is it a dent or a scratch / sometimes a "little" steam may get it out.
I would use a 3m scotchpad abrasive and rub the neck down - then re oil it.
Post a pic it may help?

If the neck is an oil and wax finish, you can usually steam it out. I use a soldering iron and a wet paper towel. Put the towel over the ding, and rub the iron back and forth over the damaged area. It should raise it up. If not, you can use super glue to fill it in, sand it smooth and re-oil and wax.

Jon,

Thanks for those suggestions. I haven't managed to bang up any of my MM guitars (yet), but I am always interested in the techniques for recovering from such mishaps.

Jon, you are a plethora of knowledge, thanx for the tip. This would be a good one for the FAQ thread yes?

You could just avoid playing anything in that area of the neck?;)

It's a valid point.

Mind you that's mean no more Bminor pentatonic action and that means no more 'Comfortably Numb' and that would quite simply be the end of me !

On a more serious note. Thanks to both Jon and Spud for their suggestions. I've had some success in the past with the soldering iron/ wet cloth thing on Guitar bodies so I may try it on the neck.

Having said that I get nervous about working on my Guitar necks in kind of the same way I always used to get edgy about working on my Motorbike brakes.
The stakes are really high if you get it wrong. So I may wimp out and take the Albert over to Feline guitars on payday and get him to look it over.

Very annoyed at myself right now.
