Of course, that doesn't include the countless house rigs and hired backline I've played through over those 25 years, but my head is starting to spin already without trying to list those as well.

I'm proud of myself. Last year, I had one head and still have it. GK 1001RB-II. My Mark Bass GAS may be thrown aside after letting loose my Neos tonight. Although, that won't stop me from a GK Fusion 550.

I use SWR, GK and Eden and my SR5's always work well with any of them. Can't say that for a lot of other basses.

Nothing but GK for 5 years here Stanky.You should try a Markbass but keep the 1001RBII also.....

My SR4 works great with Markbass, and it's absolutely amazing with my Mesa 400+ and Mesa PH4X10.
Also GK it's a good choice...

right now I'm using a sansamp programable DI into a crown XTi 1000 power amp into an avatar neo 212 and an avatar neo 410, I'm running at 4ohms and I have headroom for days at 1400 watts. It's hard to believe that I'm geeting all of the tone shaping I'm gretting out of a pedal, but this sansamp is awsome.

I have found that There really is no best answer to the question asked..
One simply has to take their MM bass to the music store and start trying different amps & cabinets.. Till one settles on what they think is best..I guess I'm saying do a comparrison test at the store..and then maybe the store may not be the best place to do the comparisons.
It all boils down to personal prefferance..
As was stated earlier in this thread everyone will recomend what they are currently using..
Your best to go and compare yourself with your bass..What you find may surprise you.

I find that the answer to this is actually hard for bass players. Reason, I tend to think bass amps, either solid state or tube, are all built good, sound good and are reliable. GK, MESA, Ampeg and others are just great amps. I have read on this very forum about the Markbass, but I have not played through one to see for myself. I took the advice of Dr. Stank and got the GK and it really rips. My bass sound is "known" out here as well as my bongos. I am the only one out here playing one.

I guess a question to ask is, do you want to lug weight around. I have been told Ampegs are heavy to carry if you gig often. Most tube amps are. Solid states tend to be lighter.

Best thing to do....try them all out if you can. Listen to others and see what they are playing. Honestly, I would never have tried out a GK (I do like tube amps) and was very surprised at how great the sound is. But, I played through others and they had a different sound, but were equally as good.

Owning basses and amps is still pretty new to me, but I see what Aussie Mark is saying.
I can only offer my opinion on bass amps in general…

A bass amp should have plenty of power and speakers in a cabinet that can handle that power.

This can be had in many sizes and shapes, under many different brand names and in several flavors (tubes, SS, hybrids etc…)

I let my gig decide, I would probably use one of these…

My EBMM bass loves my Aguilar DB750 and GS410.

Markbass for me. VERY clean uncoloured tone which allows the true Ray sound to shine through. The SR30th sounds like a dream!
