I'm just wondering if anyone has done this, who would I want to talk to, etc.? I just want to do something radically different without spending money on an entirely new bass. I feel like it might help kickstart my creativity, the same way a new pickguard or gauge of string might.

Any ideas? Criticisms? Congratulations? Lemme have it ...

Have at it, but EBMM won't help you with that. If a bass leaves the factory as a Honeyburst you can't return it to them and have them make it into Medallion Gold or any other color for that matter. You could find someone in your area that could refinish the body.

Wilkins, I forget the website, does finishes for many of the big name parts bass manufacturers. It will cost you a bit more to have them strip the finish as well. I believe Michael Dolan does refin work as well. Google both of those names for their contact information. All and all, for a real tip top job, you will be looking at at least 300, but more than likely between 400 and 500.

Remove the neck. Where it says H/burst, restamp it to say Sunburst

I had a bass refinished by Michael Dolan and he did an amazing job. It was a complicated finish (burgundy mist with a natural accent line and a transparent finish on the back) and it came to about $450 with shipping and stripping the original finish.

If it's worth it to you, do it. It's just paint. Of course, it'll void any warranty with the bass.

How due you view this bass. In that due you plan to keep it until the frets fallout or I may want to sell next year. Refinishing this bass will probably drop the value and upset some on the forum (potential future buyers of this bass). That is if you plan to sell it. If you look at from the stand point its mine and I don't care what it is worth, then go for it. As you probably all ready know Tony Levin used to constantly refinish his basses for different tours. Sometimes a unique finish makes it worth more to some. And then there is the "cool factor" which can play a lot into how you view and play the bass.

ya dude... wilkins and dolan are both awesome. i say scour the boards (like youre doing), ID some good guys, call em up and get a quote (time & money).

Here is a Stingray they refinished. The guy who owned it had cheated on his wife. So, she took the claw side of a hammer to it!

This I do not know. I DO KNOW that they seem to get a load of requests for that sort of thing. Instant mojo I suppose. I wouldn't want one. They are ugly.
