My sterling turns 10 today

I believe today is the day that 10 years ago, my sterling was completed. I felt like making a thread to celebrate how much I love this bass. I have had it for 2 years and a little, and it has been amazing. It was my first ebmm and is still to this day my favorite bass, by far. It sounds great, plays swell, and looks classy as hell. It really has some nice mojo going on. The neck is extremely worn in (but not abused, no nicks or anything, just a nice aged color) , the pickup cover actually has a large divet inbetween the screws from thumbnails over the years (i used to play there but dont anymore, now i used a floating thumb technique in front of the pup, on the left edge). There is also some wear developing as of the last 6 months especially at the end of the fingerboard from double thumbing/slapping. It really is just a gorgeous instrument.

Happy Birthday Sterling... um, the Sterling bass.

I love mine too and there is a Dargie Delight Sterling with my name on it and some time in the near future I'm going to pick up another Sterling, a maple fret board one... then my Sterling collection will be complete… until I find a sparkle one… and a CandyRed one… :D

I find it hard to lust after another sterling (unless it was fretless) because I am not one to have multiple basses for a similar purpose. I find it really difficult to split my playing time amongst basses such that all but one arent neglected. I easily choose a favorite and play that one. I guess that helps me keep my ebmm gas in check , because I dont think ill lust after another fretted EBMM, just because the sterling owns that realm. My HH SR5 is fretted and is my way of having an alternate fretted as a backup as well as a 5 string in case the situatoin calls for one, but even it is hard to justify having it with the sterling getting most of the playing time.

I'm with you Figjam.
I can not split my play time between basses either..
Get to the point where I start to favour one over the others and might as well not own them, so I don't.. I learned that early on about multipul basses so as like yourself I only us one, the Bongo. The Godin which the Bongo replaced gets no play time.

The one my MM replaced was a BG5..as in my avitar.
Still got it but I think it will be sold soon.
I hate to see it just sit there in the case.
It made me many thousands of dollars since I bought it, never let me down in any way shape or form, was a real work horse and I never had any complaints of the way it sounded.

I'm sure the MM bongo will do and be the same..Probably to a higher degree.

Aww - my bass celebrated it's 5th birthday on Thursday - I was a bad owner and forgot :eek:

My Very first Ray is also 10 this year - not exactly sure when....
