G3 2007 Question

hello guys. I am so excited and happy because i just purchased the platinum package for the G3 2007 Tour here in San francisco. Now the wait is gonna kill me!

Anyways, my question is ... I heard that some people who saw a G3 show before actually brought their guitar to have it signed. Is it really possible and permitted to do such a thing? Coz if so, i would bring my JP6 to have it signed...

That is generally up to the venue. Here, most of them will allow you to put things in coat check provided they can look it over and they will hold it until the show's end where you can go, pick it up after and take it backstage.

Simpler suggestion, Peedo. Take the backplate off your guitar. Then, bring it there for JP to sign. It's a heck of a lot lighter than bringing the whole guitar and case.

I brought the backplate to my JP6 to a JP clinic. I had him sign the inside of it. That way it wouldn't rub off, and I wouldn't have to find a way to preserve the signature. TommyInDelaware has had to have Steve Morse sign his guitar three times, because the autograph faded twice already.

I still have the signature, and the guitar retains its stock appearance, which makes a difference to me. Don't know if you care about retaining stock appearance, but I just thought I'd throw out a suggestion.

At the bottom of the following pic is what I had done.

You could even bring the backplates of both your JP6s. That's a heck of a lot easier than bringing both guitars.

Yep, those sharpies don't last. Speaking of getting (TommyinDelaware) Thom's #1 signed, he's had quite a number of opportunities to see Steve Morse play live and chat with him. We got to a venue early and Steve called him up during sound check to look at his amps when they crapped out just before a gig. Thom took them to be reset to factory specs and the shop turned them around for the next night's gig. Another time Thom patched the nut (while Steve's guitar tech nervously looked on) so he could open for Dream Theater 30 minutes later. He signed a different guitar at another gig with a longer message and then said 'You're not going to put this on eBay, are you?' (he was kidding). The first time Steve held Thom's #1 he played it a bit and really liked the feel and sound of it. I'm not 100% sure but I think that was right after Thom had carved the neck on it. Steve really didn't seem to mind signing #1 again (and again). He even remembered doing it. A suite of great memories.

I got my guitar signed on the back of the guitar, I didn't want it on the plate, but on the guitar. I used a paint marker instead of a Sharpee, and once I got home, I used an acrylic clearcote to cover the sig. by brushing lightly over it. The sig. is still there, and I play the guitar daily.

I did what Rob did, I had JP sign my back plate as well, but I had him sign the inside of the back plate that way the signature won't rub off.

I had Luke sign a plate in Dallas for MikeVt and me.

Janice, how's Tommy doing these days, haven't seen him post for a while.

Your guitar looks like Graphite Pearl to me, but your sig says Carbon Pearl which by itself is not a colour???
There's Carbon Blue Pearl, but that doesn't appear to be it.

John signed my JP7 after the clinic here - I guess that means he approved of the refin I still need to put the finishing clear coat on it but it's almost done...

I would just bring the backplates, it's much easier than a guitar.

thanks a lot for all the inputs. i kinda like both ideas. it would be so cool if he signs my guitar where it's visible to the naked eye. i guess i could bring one guitar and the plate of the other. i'll see what happens come the show.

He doesn't seem to mind at all. When I got to meet him, he signed the 2 backplates I brought, my Octavarium CD, and a Mesa Boogie poster. He took a few seconds to talk to me and my friend and then took a pic with each of us. JP is truly a gracious person.

BTW, I put a layer of clear coat over the sigs and have had no fading or rubbing off of the signatures. If i can find a pic of them I'll post it in this thread.
