The 20th also sings like crazy under high gain. There's a heck of a lot of punch to the clean sound if you have an amp that can actually bring the thunder.

here's a video with the silo 20 th

it sounds...really great. very high outplut level, higher than the axis....and it keeps this strat style, very dynamic in high frequences, that I LOVE and I've never heard before on a HH config.

Thanks for the vid Tristan! Very nice (as always! ;) )

I've got a line on one with a RW fingerboard. Anyone think there is a large tone difference between the maple and RW fingerboard models? I've always leaned towards maple in the past.........

Yes and no. :D

The Axis can growl in a way the 20th Silo can't and has a darker tone. The 20th sings beautifully and is brighter and has more of a vintage vibe.

I'd say that the 20th can cover Axis territory to some extent, but they are very different sounding guitars.

Pleas let me know if you have played both. I am contemplating some things.....

Then get a 20th with a rosewood board!

Personally, I'm a huge fan of maple boards for their attack and bite, and would choose it over rosewood any day of the week... But(!), if you are looking for warmth, smoothness and oooommmphh, rosewood is where it's at. An Axis with a maple board is a middy/warm body with a bright neck - a 20th Silo with a rosewood board is a brighter body with a warmer sounding neck. I'd guess that the overall tonal ballance would be about the same (speaking of wood alone, obviously).

But let me explain my line of reasoning in choosing instruments - it's really simple: Using the EQ on my amp, I can always dial out frequencies that are too pronounced, but I can't dial in something that isn't there. Hence, I tend to go for bright guitars with a ton of definition.

Obviously, with this train of thought the boom on my weapons of choice won't be as pronounced as on other instruments... but seing as the frequecies are there I can always dial in the boom and the ooommmppphhh should I so choose. In other words, it'll just be a question of finding the right ballance between definition and warmth on my amp. My problem with overly warm guitars is that nomatter how I set my amp, I can never dial in attack and definition if it isn't there... and it'll sound wooffy, even when I don't want it to. To me, well defined guitars gives me options, wheras overly warm guitars limit my options.

Well, I guess that's just the way my twisted mind works... and what works for me, mightn't work for others - but it's a perspective, right?

Cheers and enjoy the agony of choice

Eske

P.s.: I guess I failed to mention that I'd choose a maple necked 20th ;)
