When I push down on the tremolo arm on my JP its making a squeaking noise. I pulled off the back cover and I think its from the springs rubbing against the body of the guitar. Has anyone encountered this and do they know the cure? I'm wondering if I lower the bridge section of the tremolo it will push the springs away from the body, therefore eliminating the squeaking noise. To lower the bridge section do I just screw in the two bolts that secure it?

Don't lower the bridge...that won't help...put some folded papertowels in there...seriously it's worked for Vai for years...
Wow, never thought of that! Just put them under the springs between them and the body?

I had a squeak from the trem on my AL.
I used wd40 and the tube that comes with the can.
I squirted a "gnats gonads" full, onto each trem post and the problem was instantly cured!!!

Sometimes if a nut slot is not as smooth as it could be, there is a sqweaking type noise that sometimes sounds like it's coming from the trem. To find out if this is happening, pull up on the 1st string so it's not in the slot and move the trem arm. If it still makes noise, go to the 2nd string on up. Do this to all the strings. If you find that it has stopped when you have the string out of the slot, take a piece of sand paper.(400-600 grit0 fold it in half and carefully sand the nut slot.
Really, Jon? i had the same issue when i got my JP, and my tech just used some string cleaner stuff on the nut and it was gone.

When you say 'nut slot' are you referring to the saddle in the tremolo or the nut up on the headstock?

That is HILARIOUS
If it's been 4 months without the noise I think your tech got it taken care of.

I had the same problem once with a Patrick eggle guitar which were the bees knees in the UK for a short and it did turn out to be the trem springs rubbing against the wood.My local guitar repairer took shavings of wood away from the spring cavity where the springs were rubbing but not enough to ever solve the problem!
