Hey,
I'm 14 years old and have been playing bass for 3 years now. Can I have some suggestions for slapping. This summer I am spending all my car savings on a sting ray. At this oment I have a fairly nice schecter bass and a 400 watt amp. Just general help need

All replies appreciated

Ed Friedland has a good slap DVD. I point you in that direction because it's easier to understand if you see what's going on vs. reading about it.

You might also try Google. There must be some online lessons out there.

But trust me, you'll get a LOT more mileage out of learning the fundamentals...proper fingerstyle technique, learning the fretboard, learning how music works....

Slap and pop is like tabasco sauce. A little goes a long way.

I hesitate to try to give you any specific pointers because I'm not really into slap and pop, so I never took the time to learn how to do it properly. I think I understand the basics, but at the risk of passing along incorrect information I'll leave it to others who are better at it than I am.

Hey there Follower Of The Almighty Fela

lemme know if this helps at all:

just realize though, that Slapping technique is very broad in the sense that for as many bassists as there are out there that slap... there will be close to that many opinions on how to do it "right"

but have fun man and don't forget to let your ears ultimately be the judge! :D

Great vid! Turns out I was doing it right all along for 20 years!!!:p

Highly recommended though. As mentioned above, it is hard to read about how to slap, you need to watch how the thumb and index (or other) fingers work together.
